It would be nice if you state what level you are. If you're a lower level, burning hands can be very useful for taking out dangerous swarms. A bit higher, and fireball's going to be your main spell, while haste is very useful. Higher than that, learn what enemies cone of cold's good for, otherwise ...

I know that even after a big battle (say the one against half-dragon balor) there's often a RP reason to not rest. If you knew the general of the Luskan army was within your grasp, and that people were dieing around you, would you have a nice little nap, or ...

Okay, I admit it: if you rest after every encounter, a wizard will be better. Since I don't: I rest when I run out of spells or am badly wounded, I prefer a sorceror. It fits my play style a lot better (I get annoyed waiting for my guy to rest).

Sorcerors are not more versatile than wizards, but ...

True, preparing fireballs isn't a problem, but I can cast more if I'm a sorceror between rests. As well, I can cast stuff other than fireballs without prior preparation, instead of just filling my slots with fireballs whether I'm up against frost giants or a red dragon.

Of course, I can see that if ...

Well, if you don't have two-weapon fighting and ambidexterity, don't bother: the penalties are too great. As well, I would recommend having a light weapon in your off hand, bring the penalties down to -2,-2, though dual katanas/bastard swords does have potential.

For your ranger, remember he doesn ...

Since I like my sorceror to be able to sneak, I like halflings. Nothing like blasting someone with a cloudkill, disappearing into the shadows around the corner, and watch them slowly get wittled down :D .

Small does have its advantages for spellcasters however: the only weapon you're going to miss ...

I like the sorceror because he's always prepared for a situation: since I usually as a wizard just end up memorizing all fireballs anyway, being able to cast on demand a flame arrow or a haste does get useful.

Since I'm not one to usually prepare before hand (and I don't like resting all the time ...

Pardon my lack of understanding, but what is the connection between Vecna and Desenex, and why is athlete's foot powder such a big topic? Maybe athlete's foot just isn't my thing.

I see no disadvantage to clerics. Because of their heavy armor, they can stand up in the melee, with certain flails or morning stars they can still deal out heafty damage, and they also get their healing & more party oriented spells. Wizard spells are much more offensive, while priest spells are ...

Aerie's reaction was IIRC that the drow were the enemies of the avariel, hunted and killed them, so she definitely didn't like her joining. I can't remember if she wanted her saved or not.
