How many proficiencies does a Pally gain. If I remember correctly from my AD&D days, it is so many (or just one?) every four levels, is it not?
So how many can I plan on getting altogether after the inital 6? If I know this, I can decide ...

What are some good weapon proficiency suggestions for a Paladin?

I have not completed as much of the game as you have, but I find I restart the game constantly because I feel there may be a better way/class/race or whatever to try.
Kind of a 'grass is greener' syndrome.

I am only running SoA, I do not have ToB expansion.
I downloaded a patch through the "Update" option on BG2 opening screen.
I did this as soon as I installed the game and never tried the game without it.

Paladins look like fun to play too, the whole Undead Hunter kit looks powerful and fun to RP. Although I am not sure if fighter cleric would be better.
Then there are the rest of the classes, all of which look like they would be a blast! lol

Have to give the game designers a big pat on the back! I used to DM AD&D games (PnP type) and it took a lot to keep the whole aspect of "no perfect way' to deal with weapons and proficiencies. The odd player would work out the maxed out combinations with what weaps to ...

I know this is one of those open ended questions but pleae bear with me.
If one was to start the game with a single classed fighter (as the PC) what weapon skills would you assign?
Based on the fact that the game is all stock, and using the provided NPCs found during the game to fill out the party ...

I think I attempted to start some sort of Umar Hills quest. Got it from a Mage in the Government area. The Hills showed up on my map but I did not seem to ba able to pick them as a destination.
Not sure what was up.

It seems the longer I play SoA the more choppy the screen scroll gets. My pc is way above the recommended stats in all aspects. Was wondering if this is just me and if there is anything that can be done about it.

I have done the Keep Quest and from that had enough to pay the 15,000. So I am in Act 3 I think.
But thats about it, from there I went to the Crypts.
Will see how far I can get in these crypts then may backtrack and do the Slaver quest you suggested.
