I never played as a thrall, but I don't see why that would cause the problem.

If you have a save from before accepting the quest, you could always check to see if the Monk quest works for you.

You should only get the Shrines of Power quest after completing the Celestial quest. So if your Celestial class is still greyed out, then it sounds like a bug. Did you get the Scribe or Channel skills?

The character system is much simpler in MMXII. Instead of having skill requirements for each class (that might take you forever to achieve), you just have class requirements.

I'm with Claudius that you could go with the CE or MMXII. I like the game mechanics better in the CE, but MMXII has the ...

Shift was the action key pre-MMXII; E is the right key for you.

The game doesn't give much of an indication that activating the statues worked. Have you actually walked over to check on the platforms?

Shadow Stones are the problem. You shouldn't pick up any of them when they're dropped by athena statues.

If you're playing on the PC, then pressing the ~ key opens up the console, and typing TCL turns off collisions, allowing you to walk through things.

IIRC, shopkeepers can repair stuff. But otherwise, yeah, the repair system was another "improvement" in MMXII that wasn't thought out very well.

MMXII doesn't have a key for switching between melee and ranged weapons. The game just decides which weapon is more appropriate for you. I hated the system and eventually stopped equipping a ranged weapon at all, relying instead on spells for ranged attacks.

You can't wear the horn in MMXII, but you can invoke it using the hotkey bar. I can't remember if you get its bonuses just for having it in your inventory.

From memory, the attributes became much more generic in MMXII, and they do about the same thing there as they do in every other game. So for int and casting and dex and crit chance the answers are probably yes and yes.

You're right; there aren't any adv points any more.

I'm pretty sure this is possible in MMXII. It might even be possible to take three Sisterhood / Eastern classes. MMXII wasn't diligently play-tested.
