My game was freezing about half way through loading every time I tried to enter the Government District to pursue the Chapter 2 quests. On consulting various message boards, I decided to copy the CD contents to my hard drive. I was able to copy all the files except Area1000.pif in CD2\Data folder ...

Yes, you can redeem your "Fallen Paladin" - at least early in the game. I imported my BG1 Paladin. He fell early in Chapter 2, when I wasn't paying attention. (He inadvertently killed the boy's mother in the circus tent, among other transgressions http://www.gamebanshee.com/ubb/redface.gif ...
