Shorthand is definitely a lot quicker to write than cursive.
I cant write shorthand, i would, but i cant even read my print much less my cursive... the thing i hate about how every one thinks doctors have bad handwriting, most people think it works in reverse, i am tired of hearing baout how im going to be a great doctor because of how bad my handwriting is...
This is interesting. I didn't realise as many people have a form of writing that falls somewhere between printing and cursive.
I've seen a couple teachers who wrote in both. It drove me a tad nuts at one point, watching cursive a's join up with adjoining print letters. I had a programming teacher who was even weirder: he wanted to save time, so in order to save 1/100th of a second, he would write --- instead an m. Literally. He'd write "I went to the --arket;" of course, it was a programming class, so he didn't really write that sentence, but it was an example. And he only did it with the M's.

cursive 2nd best (at best), research shows
TonyMontana1638 wrote:With all due respect I hate cursive... I hate how sloppy some people's cursive is and I don't like writing in it myself (other than a signature)... I rue the day I was forced to learn it in second grade when I could've been learning something useful  (like physics or algebra  ).
As a handwriting instruction specialist, I have to stand with Mr. Montana on this one.

Research shows that the fastest and most legible handwriters avoid "pure" cursive -- or "pure" printing, for that matter.
Highest-speed highest-legibility handwriters tend to use printed letter-shapes wherever the printed and cursive shapes of a letter "disagree," and they tend to join only some letters (making the very easiest joins, and skipping the rest). Ah, another person with one post to their name who wants us to visit some other site and "get" something. Is it season for these people?

You can stop acting so vindictive about it. Gamebanshee meta tags simply score very good with Google, it pops up in unrelated results all the time. People are bound to chance upon some weird sentences.

And kindly take that language elsewhere.

As tricky says - please keep the language respectful.

What am I missing here? Has Penguin King's post been modified to remove the offensive word(s), because as it stands I can't see what the problem is and why he felt the need to apologise?

It's not a nice tone to a newcomer, but lets not go into the technicalities. Out out, brief thread.

Whilst I agree with your point in general Tricky, this particular 'newcomer' isn't really a newcomer at all but a spammer resurrecting old threads to make an advertisement. Unfortunately we've had far too many of them lately, and for some reason their posts seem to be left up far too long.

Is Fable on holiday? I hope so because, and I never thought I'd be the one to say this, his presence is sorely missed. I'd hate to think he was having off site problems, we give him more than enough here!

The post in question has validity for the thread. That's why I've not removed it. It might be a "spammer" or advertisement, but so can almost all replies to threads be considered if they contain links. It will always be a judgment call.
Had the link/post been cross posted, then it would be spam and advertisement - but here the post is within the context of the thread.

And regardless of whether you think the post is a spammer or not, is no reason to start calling people morons, that's what the report button is there for - use that instead.

Now back on track.....

I myself tend to use a combination of scribbling, cursive and print. I have a 90% chance of understanding what I wrote down for years to come. The added benefit of having no one understand what I wrote.
