AvatarOfLight: just pickpocket the stuff you need from them
Half-Elf Bard (intended for BG1-> ToB)
18 Strength
18 Dexterity
18 Constitution
18 Intelligence
3 Wisdom
18 Charisma
Since bards have very high minimum stats it wasn't that hard to roll this. Basically if any stats was below 11 I hit reroll instantly without adding up the scores. 3 wisdom is maybe a bit lame RP-wise, but since it's basically useless game-wise I went for the powergaming-stats

That is easily much, much, much worse from any moral standpoint. But on my current play through I will hand over the tome, then take it from her corpse. I'll *of course* try to return it, but when that doesn't work I'll put it to good useGenericUser1994 wrote:AvatarOfLight: just pickpocket the stuff you need from them
Sage plays a paladin,
because other classes would be frowned upon for laying their hands on a wounded companion

My character's surname is "Longfinger" so I basically pickpocket everyone I can. Even the beggars... Although I'm Neutral Good... hmm, maybe a bad choice of alignment.
I have a question: how is the strenght of classes that can go above 18 determined? I mean, sometimes I get 18/24 as maximum stat, and sometimes 18/95, even though I have spare points I cannot raise it higher.

For any character that reaches 18 strength a 1d100 is rolled. 01 is the worst result. 00 (100) is the best. Every so many points you essentially gain another strength modifier. If you started out with 18 strength you shouldn't worry about the number behind it. Once you reach 19 strength through the tome you'll gain all the bonuses.
I could explain this better, but the manually is really way more detailed. Page 134. replacementdocs: Downloads / PC (DOS/Windows) / Baldurs Gate

I just replayed this part. Though you can offer to pay 500, you won't actually do it. They'll see how much you want it and give it for free.wise grimwald wrote:AvatarofLight, you could of course have used the pay 500gp for the tome option, rather than the one where you ask for it for nothing. Then you need not have any qualms about not returning it.
I still dont like the whole situation, the tome is supposedly sacred to the Tymora clergy and I don't need it to solve any quest. My character is a bit of a vindictive butcher. He'll just take out the Bitch Queen's minions. Still, I did it, since I didn't actually do anything wrong and permanent stat bonuses are yummy.
