How are you doing? Not so bored today, I hope? Have you started reading the book yet?

I don't drink alcohol (lack of alcoholdehydrase enzymes, so I get a hangover before I get drunk), but a virtual whiskey should be fine

Good you're not bored
I like to whine about my ISP problems, I've changed ISP 3 times in 2 months now, and the result is that I'm currently using a company account I've got from a friend

Indeed, I'm in the heartland of the U.S. Is your body unable to process the alcohol. I've had the hangover before I get drunk before although I'm certain we're coming from two different contexts there.posted by C

A virtual whiskey it is!
Does the lack of alcoholdehydrase enzymes make you sick/ill/allergic if you intake alcohol. An old co worker of mine was almost deathly allergic to alcohol. Another was deadly (literally) allergic to citrus fruits. Perhaps an acid common to citrus. I opened an orange in the lunch room a few feet away from her and she panicked. Her neck and throat became all swollen. Very odd. Perhaps you could add some insight into these rare allergies. BTW, I'm taking off tonight and will probably not jump back on the banshee until tomorrow. Please respond and then go to bed. It's late in the UK (just a guess, maybe somewhere else in the same time zone)

@Ned: Unfortunately I know virtually nothing about allergies. Both the people you mention, are obviously very sensitive to the respective substance they are allergic to - tissue swelling to the level of not being able to breath and risk of dying is quite uncommon, fortunately. Allergy to citrus fruits isn't so umcommon, it's rather the degree of sensitivity in this girl that is uncommon.
My lack of alchol tolerance is not an allergy - when you don't have a lot alcohol dehydrase (the enzyme that degrades alcohol), you simply don't metabolise alcohol properly, and get much more intoxicated than other people. This is very common in Asian people, Native Americans and other ethnic groups.
See you later, I'm in Central European Time zone, so it's even an hour later than the UK
I almost never go to bed before 3 am - I don't need much sleep and as a researcher I seldom need to be at the lab before 10
@Dottie: Yes, it's is quite tiresome to change, but the trouble have been to extensive to accept. The first one left me without connection for several days in a row, the last time for almost a week. Also, there were problems almost every time I connected, I had to dial up perhaps 10-20 times before getting connected. That's just unacceptable. The second one wasn't as bad, at least I could connect every time, but it was still going up and down and disappeared for days. Same thing with the 3rd. And even if I can live without internet and mail at home, it's very inconvenient since I often read from online databases at night when I'm collecting material for my job.
Last week we also had no net at the lab because the whole of KS and KI got Nimda E virus and the IT department shut everything down. And I can't work without the net for 1 week, so I was happy that my friend gave me a company log in I can use when my normal (Telia - urk) ISP goes down.
Do you have broadband? I used to have that in my former flat - ah, it was great.

I'm waiting for my Bonet connection.
Fortunately I didn't get any viruses on my laptop (I usually keep it at home) so I could work anywhile while the network was cleared.
The good thing is that the IT department complained that my computer was so old so they had trouble with it, so now my professor has told me to get a new computer immediately
