Circle of Mages Sidequests?
Circle of Mages Sidequests?
Spoilers? I can't imagine anyone hasn't done this, yet...
Yes, I'm a little late playing this game. This is my first character to get this far. I just finished up the circle of mages main quest. But I've still got to finish these three sidequests:
Summoning Science
Four Mages, One Book
Watchguard blah blah blah
If I understand correctly, the summoning one can't be completed until I leave and come back. As for the Four Mages one, I just wait until I run across this J-name guy ( Josh? John? Jacob? J-based Generic Fantasy Name? .)
But the Watchguard one...
I broke down and looked at the GameBanshee walkthrough. After several failed attempts to remember, I printed out the walkthrough of the sidequest and the map. I found all the notes fairly quickly. The quest updated. But now when the click on the statues in the correct order, nothing happens. The quest doesn't update. When I go all the way down to the appreintice's rooms and click on the basement door, nothing happens.
The order I do the statues in is: cup, sword up, sword down, shield.
Am I doing anything wrong or does the game hate me?

That's the correct order. If any of the statues hurt you, then you've made a mistake.
Have you found all four codex entries relating to the quest?
Also, you can complete Summoning Sciences without leaving the tower.

“The world breaks every one and afterward many are strong at the broken places. But those that will not break it kills. It kills the very good and the very gentle and the very brave impartially.”
Yeah... I already told you I went to the Shield statue, so I already knew that. But, uh, thanks for the "help," anyway.GawainBS wrote:IIRC, this quest finishes in the central room of the floor with those statues.
I've gotten all four codex entries, I've found all six notes ( like I said ,) and I do it in that order, and the statues still shock me.Crenshinibon wrote:That's the correct order. If any of the statues hurt you, then you've made a mistake.

As per the Summoning side quest, how? The quest entry says the library is too disorganized to do anything about it. Furthermore, I've found all the clickable things and done them... but then it never lets me click on the summoning flames.
This is extremely frustrating, as my annoying sense of order won't let me continued until I finish up these stupid, fun-zapping sidequests.

Strange. I was always able to complete Summoning Sciences before finish the Circle Tower.
When you finish activating the statues, does your journal update itself?

1. the fully updated journal/codex entries for that quest.
2. touched the *correct* statues (particularly with respect to their respective rooms).
If so, its probably a bug..
Anyway, here is another perspective on that quest and obviously it's a SPOILER:

Oops, you link somebody else's walkthrough, and I have to links ours. It's Pavlovian.
Anyway, the quests seem to be working differently for the OnlyClock than they did for me. Soo... OnlyClock, which version of the game are you playing? And have you patched it? If you're getting these issues with the updated North American PC release, then I'm stumped.

I got my collector's edition pre-order in Grand Rapids, Michigan, so I assume it's the North American version. Unless, of course, some Canadian secret agent switched it out as part of the Canadian government's attempt to drive me mad.
I've updated the game as much as I can, in both patches and downloable content.
In other news, I guess I don't need anymore help. I deleted the mage and started another character. I don't intend on doing the Circle sidequests this time around. "Thanks" for the "help," I guess. If it weren't for the fun-killing sidequests, this game might actually be enjoyable. As it is, it's merely something to do to kill time in these periods of constant rage and insanity between sleep I laughably call "being awake."

Sometimes it doesn't work out, but try and be thankful that some at least attempted to help.OnlyClock wrote:"Thanks" for the "help," I guess.
BTW, many of these side-quests really don't have much to do with the game (or have any real consequence to major events). Even the perennial "need" to accumulate XP's is something of a waste here, most quests (like these) don't provide that much XP.
Said differently, IF you run into this problem again - SKIP THE QUEST! (..and don't stress on it, you haven't missed much at all and it isn't worth the emotional expenditure of either Rage or Insanity.. )

Four mages, 5 pages. Bah. Leave it. All that really happens is it spawns another random encounter for some fighting.
Same for Summoning Sciences. The Second ritual spawns a Random encounter/Chantry board Quest. The fourth a codex entry for a sucessful pick-pocket. Again, you don't miss anything.
Watchguard of the Reaches, well.... THAT might be good to try again on.

Watchguard gives a 2h-sword that is most excellent against dragons.

Lol, summoning sciences gives you the best mage boots in the game and watchguard of the reaching the best anti-dragon sword. They're also not hard to complete at all if you check your quest related codex or some online walkthrough.GoldDragon wrote:Four mages, 5 pages. Bah. Leave it. Have you seen better boots for a non-Arcane warrior mage? Cause I haven't..GoldDragon wrote:I was un-impressed by the "Best Mage boots in the game".
And I put what you said in spoilers, since it IS a spoiler. And for the Codex, It is from Arl Foreshadow. The Summoning Sciences quest only needs to 3rd set completed to complete, anyways.
