I suggest reloading an earlier save and stock up. Get yourself some swallow potions, and if you have the formula for it Cinifid oil. Great stuff against non monsters. With only 2 levels of group style you are not going to have an easy time, so try to pick out your targets one by one. The Cinifird oils will cause pain on your enemies and Swallow good over time healing. Save the Insta heals for emergencies. A King and Queen bomb is a nice help as well if you have the formula and the talent needed to make bombs.

Linked here is someone else's article on how the talents work and stack up against each other. If you don't mind a wall of text it will help you a lot.

It's still early enough to pick a specialty and specialization in either swords or magic will help a lot.

My instant save saved at the top of the stairs leading to the vault, do I have the option of reversing and going back out the town hall door, finding a fireplace/triss and meditating? I think I levelled up and have talents to distribute but I really dont want to fail this as it leads into others, does it have to be all in one go or can I stagger it, finish other goals, stock up meditate etc and then finish it?

What about manual saves? Any that are any where near that point in the game but outside the bank?

I'm asking because you sound pretty stuck and without adequate prep you might not get past there. Better to replay an hour of content than to bash your head against the same wall over and over again.

If not, use strong style on the dwarves and fast style on the elves. From what you said you dont have enough in group to reliably use it there.

Try your aard sigh to get a coupler of cheap stun kills. If you have a blizzard potion that would help a lot too.

Try hitting as few side quests to level a little while you are at it. A couple of skill points go a long way in this game. Try reading up on that article I sent you . It describes pretty well how the skills work.

Group style 3 will make that sequence cake. This is a good place to decide whether you focus on signs or swords. I like swords myself but a signs build is supposedly an easy button once fully leveled. You can just spam igni and kill most enemies really quick.

However I like my player characters to be able to hit things until they are dead. So I tend to max out Strength, Dexterity and Stamina, Go to level 5 of strong and fast for both swords and for group level 4 for steel and 3 for silver. Silver is of less importance than steel for group styles. igni and Aard are your friends regardless of build. Buffing Quen is useful for quaffing potions mid fight.

Have fun and keep finding those side quests. You should have tons more money right now than you do.

Thank you for the last post, that was useful to know, will endeavor to do just as you said! My main aim for the coinage was to get the upgraded armor, once I got that I was going to change up the steel sword to one made with meteors, however which one, I don't really know, any tips on that?

I wouldn't spend money on a Meteor's Sword. There's a very good Steel Sword for free in the swamps. Check out the Gamebanshee walkthrough, it's near the Wyverns Island.

Not really, no. No reason not to get the one in the swamps, though. There's another sidequest to be finished there (get the Wyvern Queen's Head), and the sword only has to be picked up.

Seconded, the sword you get for free in the swamps that the guide will help you find is superior to any forged sword you can make for yourself. Save your money for the armour and the books you need to fulfill quests.

Ok, got that sword now, am in game so can tell you that my strength is at tier 4, my intelligence, dexterity and stamina are all tier 2, my signs are all tier 2, my strong steel and group steel are tier three, fast steel tier 2. Strong, Fast and Group silver are all tier 2.

This is my advice for a good swordfighting build: increase Strength, Dexterity and Stamina ASAP. Then your Strong and Fast styles, both Silver & Steel. Then the Group styles. Then Aard Sign. Only then should you start taking the "side" talents. If possible, raise Intelligence too.
