Thanks for the props, Mulligan!

Also - great info on the werewolf and banshee loot scrolls - I never noted that, and since I like to have my mage avoid taking spells she can learn from scrolls at some point, it's real helpful.

Keep up the good work, man - you're all over this game!

Peace out!

It's a great list! Thanks Mulligan. And I want to supplement it by unrecruitable NPCs.
You know we can use suggestion spell to charm human, and if you charmed a wizard like Senshock and Falrinth, you can ask them to scribe scrolls after you helped them getting some experience.
My steps as below:
1.try to suggest the wizard (cast spell or use scroll)
2.if you got in fight after charmed, you can cast teleport to out of the battle or just finish it to earn experience
3.seek some puny fights for little experience, maybe you can re-enter the temple to search or sleep to wait (notice the spell's duration)
4.then cast teleport to transfer your group to peace area like Nulb
5.command the poor wizard scribing scroll to you
6.then sleep or travel to another area to wait the spell decay
7.back to the wizard living room, he/she will be there

Here are the spellbook lists of Senshock and Falrinth:

NPC SENSHOCK's Spellbook:
L1 Charm Person
L3 Fireball
L4 Lesser Globe Of Invulnerability
L4 Invisibility, Greater
L4 Phantasmal Killer
L5 Dominant Person

NPC FALRINTH's Spellbook:
L1 Charm Person
L1 Burning Hands
L2 Mirror Image
L2 Tasha's Hideous Laughter
L3 Hold Person
L3 Lightning Bolt
L4 Lesser Globe Of Invulnerability
L4 Invisibility, Greater
L4 Dimension Door
L4 StoneSkin

Hope this is useful.

This info is AWESOME, thank you very much !!!!

Who would ever think of charming the ultimate Evil enemy wizards into Npc's ?

Simply amazing. :)

We now know that the ever-precious Fireball-spell can be scribed by another Npc than Burne, and that the all-important Stoneskin spell is availible as well.

Dominat Person and Tasha's Laughter are great spells also !

This is really helpful for wizard fans (like myself)

Again, thank you very much :) :) :)

Right behind you, Mull...

This is too funny - I was totally looking at my dominate person spell, and recalling your (that's you, Mull) post on dominating animals and leveling them up, and the thought occurred to me:

Couldn't dominate person be used to make anyone a party member?

It's funny, too, that I guess a game as short and level-capped as this just invites people to find ways to milk everything possible out of it. I so wish there were a (whattaya call 'em?) construction set like NWN or Morrowind has, so we could really play around with things.

:p

Good thinking, Jamill! Welcome aboard!

Yes, with The Dominat & Suggestion & Charm Monster spells all monsters/peoples/animals could be made into Npc's. (except for the various fungi, they are immune!)

I've become member at CO8 and i won't be surprized to see additional Mods/Fan-patches from them in the future. I'm tinkering with the thougtht myself. (Although i cant promise anything yet, i have much to learn!)

I do hope that unusual Npc's will make it into the "Npc thread", for me it's one of the fun things in the game.

I wonder how "Hedrach" or the Temple Priests will do as npc's, hmm, i've got much to explore yet!

Again, praise to new members such as Jamill for supplying great info. :) :) :)

New NPCs?

Hey,

Various posts talk about animals that can be turned into NPCs thanks to Dominate Animal spells. Can non-recruitable NPCs like Senshock be part of the party if the proper spells are used (character killed and raised, maps changed, teleport, etc...) ?

Thanks for insight

First of all, I want to fix the typo of the spell name from 'dominant person' to 'dominate person'. And then I want adding the spell list by some NPC's and monster NPC's spellbooks.
1. The monster wizards at temple ruin and nearby Hedrack.
2. Vincent Visionmarker, the wizard of the adventure group encountered at world map.
3. Deggum, the student of Senshock (?), in Senshock's room which at temple dungeon level 4.

NPC MONSTER WIZARD's Spellbook
L1 Ray of Enfeeblement
L1 Enlarge Person
L2 Mirror Image
L3 Slow
L3 Hold Person
L3 Fireball

NPC VINCENT VISIONMARKER's Spellbook
L1 Magic Missile

NPC DEGGUM's Spellbook
L0 ALL (N/A)

Hope these are useful.

Hi Jamill :)

Thanks for the great info !

Done !

Done !

I hope you don't mind that i include your info in the above list, i think is't nice for players that want a printed list.

And hi Arachnol :)
Hey,

Yes they can, but it's a bit tricky. You cant't kill them yourself, the suggestion ends if you show hostility, so let them die in a fight with monsters.

After you've made them Npc's, you might have to "force" attack monsters in the Temple. Senchock i.e. is scripted to be "friendly" vs Temple enemies. This also means that those nasty bugbears are unlikely to attack him. :)

Have Fun :) :) :)

New Recruitable NPCs

Hi and Thanks Mulligan :)

Here is a new challenge then: see how the suggested NPCs level... I guess you and Greywulf are a little tired of it ;)

I'll see how long it takes and keep you posted.

Peace man, and many thanks for all your contribution to this forum!

When you are getting your reward for rescuing Thrommel (e.g. Scather), it is possible to also be given a reward option that includes among the choices twelve 1st level wizard scrolls.

I -believe- this option is triggered by having certain possessions of Thrommel's in your inventory. So to get this option, you have to have allowed Thrommel to die and looted him (which many players probably already do just to get Fragerach). I -think- having his amulet in your possession when you get the reward is what triggers this option, based on a clue given during the reward conversation, but it might be anything. So, if you loot Fragerach, be sure to also take his other gear such as his amulet, ring, etc., and have them with you when you get your reward. I know that when I sold them off before going to get the reward, I was not given the option of getting the scrolls, so that adds some weight to my theory.

BE WARNED - allowing Thrommel to die at any point seems to trigger the "bad" ending cut sequence for Thrommel, even if you do ressurect him and get your reward.

Anyway, the 12 1st level scrolls you get (assuming you pick that option) are as follows:

Charm Person
Expeditious Retreat
Grease
Identify
Mage Armor
Magic Missile
Obscuring Mist
Ray of Enfeeblement
Shocking Grasp
Sleep
Summon Monster I
True Strike

Not that bad, since I don't think there's ANY other way to get Expeditious Retreat, Obscuring Mist or Summon Monster I in the game other than to pick them during levelups.

The only other option at the point where you can get the 12 scrolls that was even mildy tempting was a Cloak of Resistance +2. The other rewards were nice but nothing you'd have trouble finding in other parts of the game (along the lines of Longsword +2). So unless you don't even -have- a wizard at all, I'd say go for the scrolls.

Hope this helps :) Thanks, Mulligan, for providing the other lists, it's quite useful to those of us who are anal and want our wizards to have as complete spell books as possible :)

For those who patch themselves... I've never triggered it as I've never had Thrommel die... but I had seen the script with the choices while poking around;-) Although I don't edit any scripts for cheats - just the typos and bugs...

ie.

{41}{Thank you, Lord Grundwell!}{}{8}{anyone( pc.group_list(), "item_find", 3014 )}{70}{}

{61}{[exit]}{}{1}{}{0}{}
.

.
{70}{In addition, for you @pcname@, as holder of the medallion, you may select one of these fine items. [He displays several items to you]}{In addition, for you @pcname@, as holder of the medallion, you may select on of these fine items. [He displays several items to you]}{}{}{}{}
{71}{I would like the scrolls of twelve first-level wizard spells.}{}{8}{}{80}{transfer_scrolls(npc,pc)}
{72}{I would the necklace of prayer beads.}{}{8}{}{80}{npc.item_transfer_to_by_proto( pc, 6127)}
{73}{I would like the large +1 shield.}{}{8}{}{80}{npc.item_transfer_to_by_proto( pc, 6050)}
{74}{I would like the cloak of resistance +2.}{}{8}{}{80}{npc.item_transfer_to_by_proto( pc, 6086)}
.
.
.
{101}{[You gasp] Lord Grundwell, this reward is beyond all expectation! I am in awe. Thank you, thank you.}{}{8}{}{60}{}

Now, then with that script... it means of course the Marshall and his companions have these items in there inventory... it's very easy to shut off the "{[exit]}" on line {61}{[exit]}{}{1}{}{0}{} in this encounter which sends the Marshall and his companions off the map... by changing it to "{E:}" they'll stick around thus allowing you to kick his butt and get the items afterward... or else if you prefer a blatant cheat you could put item 3014 (the medallion) in your start_equipment.mes file for one of your character classes but if you were going to do that you could have just put all the scrolls in that file - but I really don't like cheating - if I were to opt to cheat I'd do it by scripting it... more than likely by adding a few additional quests...

Hello

This is my first post here !
Great forum for TOEE, really, I've learned a lot for it :D
I've just installed it under ubuntu and it works good (except lag for sounds)

Is it possible to list all the spell that cannot be learned from scrolls ? So that it could be easier to take the right spells while levelling :)

Reply may be a bit late but saw someone asking for spell lists showing what is and isnt obtainable in the game. Here are the first few levels and I will update further levels as I play through the game.

Thanks to formatting being removed by the site the above may not be easy to read.

Spell and Level are pretty obvious.

The 'Scroll' line gives a 'Yes' or 'No' value indicating if the spell can be found or created as a scroll in game for Wizards to scribe without the need for the player to select that spell to learn during level up. Using this field you can easily find what spells are best to learn and which you can wait to locate the spell scroll. These values are based on the information above and my experience playing ToEE.

School indicates what school of magic the spell belongs to. That is mainly for my reference but hopefully it helps here too. This is only really a concern for those who specialize their wizard.

Obtained is where to find the scroll, values here are abbreviated to represent things like purchasable from a Merchant, Lootable, or found in a recruitable NPC spellbook. The 'X' under obtainable indicates it can be found in the ShopMap Spell Chest prior to starting the prologue adventure. I am not sure every version has the ShopMap feature but if you use Circle of Eight modpacks installed it definitely does.

'Obtained' Key -
B = Burne's Spellbook
F = Falrinth's Spellbook
L = Lootable
M = Merchant
P = Prince Thrommel
S = Spugnoir's Spellbook
W = Monster Wizard's Spellbook

X = ShopMap

(Circle of Eight Modpack - http://www.co8.org/forum/showthread.php?t=7737 )
