1. How many rings in total did Sauron create? (think back to the opening poem)
*thinks* Didn't he just forge the One Ring?

2. What were the names of the three Elven rings? What precious stones were set in them?
I haven't the floggiest.

3. Who wore them?
Galadriel, Gandalf, and...Elrond?

4. Who was Sauron's master?
Sauron's master? He had a master?

5. Who cut the ring off Sauron's finger?
Isildur?
What was the name of the instrument he used to do so?
Anduril?

6. Other than casting them into Orodruin (Mount Doom), how else can the great rings be destroyed?
Uh...I didn't think there was another way they could be destroyed.

7. Who was the last Ringbearer to leave Middle-Earth?
Samwise Gamgee?

8. What riddle/question did Bilbo use to win the One Ring from Gollum?
Gah, it's been 2 or 3 years since I read the Hobbit...

9. What two "beneficial" powers does the One Ring grants its wearer?
Invisibility and...I don't know the other...

10. Who was the first person to become aware of the One Ring's existence when Sauron placed it upon his finger?
Saruman?

Great job, humanflyz! You got most of them right.

The correct answers are:

1. This is a trick question, actually. Sauron was involved in the creation of all but the three Elven rings, which were crafted by the elven smiths, and thus bestowed no evil taint upon their wearers. The correct answer is 17.

2. See humanflyz' answer above

3. Elrond, Galadriel, Gandalf

4. Morgoth

5. Isildur, with the hilt shard of Narsil. Narsil would later be re-forged and re-named Anduril by Aragorn, the heir of Isildur.

6. Dragonfire. Specifically, Ancagalon, the great black dragon.

7. Samwise Gamgee

8. "What's in my pocket?"

9. Improved invisibility, immortality.

10. The king of the elves and forger of the three elven rings, Celebrimbor.

Here's something that will confirm something that may spoil the book if you haven't finished reading it.

It is now confirmed that Tom Bombadil and the Barrow-wights are cut out of the movie. What a shame, I would've enjoyed the Barrow-wight scene alot, that shows Frodo's courage. Oh well, I guess I'll just get the DVDs with all the deleted footages on them.

Guess what I actually got my little brother to start reading the trilogy, now I got him hooked :D and he now can not stop talking about it. Slow reader but he has already finished the Fellowship of the Rings and is now eagerly awaiting the movie which is coming out, so anyway I leave for home from college and I will watch it with him. Again I hope it doesn't suck, but from what I have seen so far it looks pretty cool.
I care not for endings or beginnings, but for the eternal and infinite spaces of the universe, and for the endless exploration of eternity, and mysteries which I will find plumbing the infinite depths.

"Do not turn inward to find peace and wisdom, turn outward instead to find liberation from the narrow boundaries of self", quote from Gary Paul Nabhan, paraphrased of course

"When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong" quote from Arthur C. Clarke, thought it was interesting.

I finally got Random Shadow to read the Hobbit and LotR. I told her today about them cutting out Tom and she thought that was horrible. Until I managed to get her to start reading the books, she had no intention of going to see the movies and now she's upset because they cut that out of the movie.

I almost think its a good thing they cut out Tom Bombadill, his not involved in the main plot and i find him somewhat disturbing.

And anyway its better they cut out him then almost anything else...

Flame away :p :)

You learn something new each day! I've just learned it's pronounced Tol-keen, not Tol-ki-en. JRR himself cleared that up in one of his letters.

I just got my tickets too. At 12:45 Wednesday I too shall behold Tolkien's masterpiece brought to life on the big screen. And afterwards I can give all you naysayers the one finger salute for doubting its greatness. :p Image :D
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

I have a question for you and anyone else who doesn't like Tolkien's work, well, those of you who have read the Icewind Dale Trilogy.

Do you like the parts of the IWD Trilogy involving Bruenor and Shimmergloom?
