I agree, if they could cast spells inside a battle that is a totally different matter. And it is not easy to cast spells while constantly hit by Flail of Ages additional damages.
Without Tenser's the K-M looses its advantages (would have half HP, much less THAC0).
It is true that the Iron Golem didn't die with one hit from CF. But with all those enhancement the B/C needed only 4 hit, the Golem died earlier than the Tenser-ed K/M.
Though the Shapechange is 9th level spell (IMHO not fair to use in dual), I also tried out the Werewolf. It survived quite long with its quick regen (I added a Regenation spell for the B/C), but the AoF lasted longer (I also added the 7th level Regeneration spell to the B/C) .

I dont think that the C/M would prove too strong in combat, it would be more or less invulnerable at first, but due to few attacks and the spell protections disappearing i would think the fight would be long, but the C/M would lose.

I think you should have some restrictions on magic on your tests, as it is quite impossible for a fighter to beat a F/C with 10 spells used.

So, 3 or 4 magic/special abilities, and no itemrelated magic, only the magic they can use themselves would be more fair i must say.

The advantage of these dual classes that they can have powerful defenses and enhancements. I agree that pure warriors have no chance against these "monsters".
The C/M (Lathander 11/16) has good AC: -15, THAC0: -11 and attack rate: 6, though the hit point advantages were not accumulated: hp: 190 (it seems Tenser doubles only the base points). Still a strong match for the B/C.

Yes shapechange is a ninth level spell. Therefore very powerful and I seriously doubt that a b/c can beat that. When in that shape you can still cast from scrolls. If you turn on kai while being a golem you do 52 + kensai bonus damage per hit. If you have an off hand weapon equipped you will have six attacks per round. Also mindflayer attacks will hit through AoF I believe. However I agree that stacking is AAoF is extremely potent.

I was gonna say that if you are an iron golem you don't take damage from FoA rather I think the fire damage heals you. Also you wont be slowed because of magic resistance.

As I wrote I have tried the iron golem. It gained advantage of all the other spells (mirror image, improved haste). It could hit 50 for the round of Kai, but the AoF catch it totally. The FOA slowed the golem, because the engine doesn't treat the additional effects as magic. Though the damage resistance of the Golem saved it from the elemental damages of the FOA. After the Mirror Image and Stoneskin wear off the B/C needed 4 hits with the CF to kill it.

So what's better, Sorcerer or Kensai/Mage? I started out a kensai solo and it was pretty tough going with their sucky AC. Then I tried a sorcerer and I've been rolling through everything easily.

Great job, KensaiRyu, with testing these out!!! :)

It would be interesting throwing in a paladin in the mix, as they can cast AoF, as well. An inquisitor with their uber-dispel magic would really wipe out a lot of preparation quickly.

It would be interesting to put in the clause of no preparation whatsoever, only contingincies and triggers (only to limit the conversation, here. Otherwise, there are too many what ifs). Let's say you're on a map but don't know where the other character is yet, so you only start casting when you catch sight of the other player. That way we'd have to figure out what to have stored in contingincies, but it would limit the speculation on spellcasting. I seriously hope a BG Tournament becomes available.

Again, great work by all involved here. Great posts!

Who do you want me to test your character against craig? A B/C or a monk of F/M? And what weapons and levels do you want them to have?

How about a duel between the infamous Ranger/Cleric and the even more infamous Kensai/Mage? I imagine it would be a close fight.

Practically that would be the same as the B/C vs. K/M, the ranger could use Iron Skin "instead" of the Berserker's rage.
