@Lainy: The Borgia family likely inspired parts of Machiavelli's The Prince.
"since love and fear can hardly exist together, if we must choose between them, it is far safer to be feared than loved"
Case in point: Most people replace *safer* in this quote with *better*...changing the meaning subtly, but decidedly more sinister.
Edit: @Lainy again: No one has been so rudely debunked yet continues to sell his books. What does *that* say about people?

Hi Flagg
Waverly, very true. I was interested in Lucretia since she's been fairly demonized through the centuries, yet according to reports, after she was married off and sent away she was exceedingly well loved by her people. I doubt the Borgias were much worse than most other ruling families at the time. But as they say the winner writes their own history and they often do

@T'lainya: Hello.
Lucrezia Borgia... I think she was not the evil vamp people described her. She was more or less like a piece of chess, used by her brother, as many royalty were at the time. Though she did have an illegitimate son by a footman (or such) when she was young.
She was lucky with her last husband, Alfonso d'Este, since the deaths of her father and brother, there was a pressure on Alfonso to divorce her, as she was no use without anyone left to give her power.

Hey, you have to take good care of yourself. It wouldn't be good if you started feeling unwell. We can't have that.Originally posted by Minerva:

@ Minerva that was my general impression also. I however am not a historian so I wanted your opinion.
@ Flagg...Hmm D & D, most of my knowledge is based on the 1st ed. rules
History ? possibly depending on what age
Politics..possibly
Other subjects..I'm drawing a blank, and lacking typing skills too (I'm also being distracted by a basketball game)

That is okay. I have to make a phone call, but I will be back in a couple of minutes. In the meantime. I have written an editorial recently that will be posted early coming week about the ability of achieving level 40 in Throne of Bhaal. What is your opinion on this? Is this something that you like or not? Why or why not?Originally posted by T'lainya:

@ Flagg, I wonder how much of that is overkill. I know in IWD (not HOW) I was not even close to the xp cap after completing every quest. BG2 has much more to do and more ways to get xp but I'm not sure lvl 40 is attainable without cheating. Also..what are you going to be fighting? Gods? The entire Drow race? It seems a little pointless to me.. Although I don't mind finally being able to memorize 9th level spells since every roadside wizard could cast time stop.. repeatedly. I suppose without cheating you wouldn't get to that level anyway except maybe by soloing. I liked to use the CLUA console to check out what certain classes would be like at high levels but I never played through with one of them.
Hmm I've got a visitor, I'll be back in 1 little while..I'm interested in other peoples opinions on this one

@T', I have to say that I agree with you on a couple of things. It really isn't hard to reach the Exp. cap in BG2. I easily managed this with my main character before I left the underdark. I agree that level 40 is overkill, as in my opinion it puts the entire world in a different perspective. Your main character would suddenly be capable of easily killing Elmininster. This is something that doesn't feel completely right. I really feel that you are going to like our piece that Applebrown and I have written. I hope that we can put it online late tomorrow evening or early Tuesday morning. It depends a bit on when Buck will be back, as it will be the start of a complete new feature on GameBanshee. After the article, you will find, hopefully, enough people to discuss this with.
Let's see, do I have another interesting topic to discuss? Hmmm. I'll think on it for a bit. Anyone else have a good suggestion?
