afganistan do not have nukes. the proplem will be to find him. any such operation will take a long time and be messy.

My question wasn't really a question, more a rhetoric comment is sadness and shock :( No, terrorists probably don't care about long term political or econimical goals, if they did they wouldn't be terrorists, I suppose :(

:(

What is to be gained from this??

To bloody the nose of the US?? What is gained??

To ask for 10 times retribution from the US military. What is gained??

Some sort of Jihad martyr making? Real benefit besides getting name on plaque???

The Japanese made this same sort of mistake by acting and failing to fully see the retribution that would be demanded by the US population. I think if these terrorists wanted to bring to bear the full rage of the American people, along with the concentration of its resources, to eliminate these types of threats they have succeeded.
The rules have now changed.

It is hard to believe that any religion or belief embraced by large populations could possibly condone these actions. I, like many others, am finding it very hard to control my rage. I dont think the US will do anything rash. I know that those resposible will answer for this.

Prayers for all the victims.

The Taliban ambassador to Pakistan, Abdul Salam Zaeef, has condemned the attacks, according to the Pakistan-based Afghan Islamic press agency.

That must have been a awful number of people. Imagine what it must feel like for their families...What horrific waste of human life :( It's almost incomprehensible :(

I'm sure the US will find out who's responsible. Such a large scale operation must leave a lot of traces.

The death toll easily numbers in the thousands. I’m trying to keep calm but it’s hard not to fly off into a rage. This cravenly assault must be met with swift and deadly reprisal. I don’t know who’s to blame for this but I was disgusted to see footage from Jerusalem of people dancing in the streets and celebrating when they heard of the carnage. Has human life become so devoid of value? The world has taken a turn for the surreal. Some folks are even talking about the book of Revelations and Armageddon. I know if America goes to war over this I’m enlisting. God keep the souls of those slain and may the sword of justice find the hearts of the bastards responsible.
Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

But it will change our way of life in some way. Already we're at a state of war with fighter planes patrolling the skies of Washington, D.C. :( The Manhattan skyline has been permanently changed.

Part of what made us so vernerable(sp?) to this are our freedoms. How many of those freedoms will we lose because of this?

the 6th deaths and 1000 injuries to which you are referring was the result of the 1993 world trade center bombing. this is far more devestating. the official casualty ESTIMATE at this time is now 10,000. both towers have collapsed...they are gone... :(

Here in Tucson, government and police buildings are obviously on heightened security. The Red Cross has put a call out for blood donations, but their collection centers are currently jam-packed, and they are trying to open new centers. There isn't much any of us can do about the situation, but I intend to give blood later today. I encourage everyone to do so as well. Even international blood banks may be tapped. Just a suggestion.
That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.

??? Aren't you making some rather unfounded assumptions here? So far, both BBC and CNN says it's far to early to tell who's responsible for the attacks.

Pictures of a some hundred anti-American Palestinians celebrating, has been broadcasted. IMO there are no excuses for celebrating death and disaster of other people, especially not civilians. But the celebrating Palestinians probably feel what some of us in the Western world would feel if the perpertrators of this attack were hunted down and killed this very moment. Revenge and hate are strong in the human mind. :(

EDIT: You beat me to it, AJ.

There will probably be many groups claiming responsibility. We should not even consider retaliation until we know for sure who is responsible. Oklahoma showed us that it could even be a US group. Consequently, I would urge caution.

All what these "people" do is bomb one and an other. Voilense everywhere.
Put wall around the whole place and wait till they are all dead.

Fighting about who's religion is better, all wanting theire own country, thinking they are better then the rest.
For these "people" I have no mercy.
