I prefer to create my own characters. That way I can explore the game more.
As said before it doesn't have to mean powergaming.
Right now I am powergaming though.
Party consists of:
Human Inquisitor
Half-elven Ranger/cleric
Elven F/M/T
Human Kensai/Mage
Elven Archer
Elven Archer

Archers are so effective.

Hmmm... thought he had a beard coz the Boromir in the cover of Robert Foster's "The Complete Guide to Middle-Earth" which features the Nine Walkers, has one --- and sure doesn't look like a barbarian.

I already discussed my party as a topic in another thread and I had great input from the other guys.

I initially thought of having him as a barbarian but I was convinced otherwise. ;)

For ToB I am gonna play with.
Elven F/M/T
Gnome Fighter/Illusionist
Half-elven Ranger/Cleric
Elven Sorceror
Elven Archer

This is the ultimate stealth party.
Will be using my favourite spell mislead alot.
Anyone have any good suggestions for weapons for these guys.
I am gonna use short bows and cross bows with the archer.
Staff of the magi for the sorceror.
FoA for the cleric.
Unsure about the fmt, and gnome.

I can't play precreated. I find it incredibly boring, since it's all about combat. Nope, I need my NPC interactions, and adepting my setup to cope for their strengths and weaknesses, as well as taking into account the fact that some of them simply will not work in a party together. Now that's real gaming :)

Then again, if you enjoy precreated parties geared for combat, try Icewind Dale (with addons).
Past: Ascension
Present: The Broken Hourglass
Future: Return to Windspear, Imoen Relationship

Ive run many parties through and the precreated ones can make it too easy , thats why im now playing a monk and a fighter theif dueled to theif immediatly, just the 2 , its a reasonably good challenge and i like haveing just 2-3 characters to operate.

I agree that it is better to have a party of just two or three. A party of six is difficult to manage. For me anyway.

Uber cheese party....

yeah, I have said I prefer npcs, but if I was to create a party, using various cheesey techs to augment their abilities, this is what I would do...

heh, heh, heh...

1 sorc. evil char, whether hacked or unhacked is major magical spell house. Note. this is ONLY single class in entire party.

2 mage slayer thief dualed at around 20 or so. she's a major liability up until i hit watchers keep, then dual very high up, becomes an uter monster once past lv 20 thief. major points in short bow and crossbow, and has human skin armor and holy avenger. magic resist way beyond 100%. Plus spikey traps...

dual wield scarlet ninja to and kundane for long duration whirlwind with ring of gaxx

3. fighter cleric multi....without the great kevin patch, think 5 armor of faith...127% resistant to all damage, and after invulnerable buffing period, think righteous magic and whirlwinds. forget about kensais, righteous magic is a long duration kai shot...with greater whirlwind, and crom feyr+flail of ages think bash mania. Primary tank and healer too.

4. fighter mage multi
gets all the really cool weps and a mage spell selection to buff up natural killing ability, like tensors and stoneskin, but really aimed at fast killing spells selection too. also carries a selection of wands.

specializes in a loadout of two handed weps, they have the best enchantments in the game, major meelee fighter, no ranged at all but spells are its ranged tools of choice. chain cont. abu dahzims and sequenced skull traps, and any really nasty shield breakers I want.

5. druid fighter multi yes, jaheira! but she is a really killer char used right anyway. gretater elemental summon, whirlwind and iron skin and globe of blades, though a pre made char would have higher wisdom... so nice until you reach that magic 3 million xp in druid...sigh

6. cleric mage mult like aerie but with higher wisdom, specailized undead hunter and demon killer, there are some truely evil things you can do with a cleric mage multi

The multis rule soa with tob installed, and certain dual combos are evil beyond description.
They call me Darth...

Darth Gizka!

Muwahahahahhahahha!!!

I have started a new game to go through SoA and ToB with
Human Blade
Half-elven ranger/cleric
gnome fighter/illusionist
halfling fighter/thief
elven sorceror
I haven't gotten that far yet but it should be powerful I think.
I think I want to try the six mages party later on.
Sounds really cool

I just finished the game with 2 self-made characters and 2 NPCs. It had REALLY fun with my half orc barbarian and my cavalier backed up by aerie and imoen. It was quite easy though...

I posted this topic a while back, I started a game with a half-elf ranger, and a half-elf thief/mage. and played with just those two, just about to get to spellhold, so I can pick up Imoen. After playing with all the NPC's the first time through, It's kinda cool playing this way.
You know, my last owner always said I was sharp and edgy. Heheh. He was such an ass.
