Making some items for my students' exams. It's so darn hard!!!

And to think that students complain that it's tough taking exams. Well, they sure can try and make one instead....

SO far, only some pear-juice for breakfast, I'm considering making a Cambozola and parma ham sandwich

I'm a bit tired, have been working a lot this week.

Yep, Caernorhabditis Elegans is a nematode, not so great is size (1mm), but great in importance

I hear you have exactly the same problem as I have - my students have their oral exam next Friday. The written exam they have got is to write a scientific paper, and fortunately, another teacher is checking on that

What subject are your students taking? What's the exam going to be like?

Intensive English for 2nd year secondary students. Mostly conversational english with grammar lessons subtly inserted. My kids are Thai girls of 50

in a class.

Never much had a problem with content but more on how to present the items as well as determining the correct level of difficulty for my students. Exam is multiple choice plus 10 items for writing sentences in the proper order.

Yep, 50 senoritas. The (actual) Thai education system here has much to be desired. I mean, how can you possibly be an effective language teacher if you don't have enough means to cater to your students' individual needs? Some times I just feel disgusted about this feeling of being ineffective at the same time helplessness in addressing these problems in class management.

Sometimes I even question myself as an efficient and effective language teacher.

I will spend more time with the hubby this weekend

I'm always hungry, and everytime people talk about food, I get hungry even though I just ate. Thailand is a great place for food - I get hungry just thinking about it

Working under circumstances where the system itself makes it impossible to meet the needs of people, is very difficult

It's important to realise where the limit goes between what one can actually do and not. One try to do one's best, but when there's a lack of basic resources, it's impossible for one person to make up for this

What is the problem with the Thai education system? Financial resources? People? Priority?

Belly dancing is fun and good for your body

I plan to be good enough to give a performance at my own PhD dissertation dinner

Heehee, I'm not really sure. At least half my audience spoke at least 2 languages already; one of'em speaks 4 languages.

I speak Texan,

a little bit of English, some French, a little spanish, very little portuguese, some German, and a little Japanese.

In my case, I plan to take up my Master's here in Bangkok. Unfortunately, the courses for English-speaking students are quite limited. I would have wanted to take up Education Psychology (I was about to take it at the University of the Philippines before I got this job) seems though that I might end up with MA in Curricullum Instructions.

My thoughts exactly, CE. In fact my British and American friends here tell me to chill out and just make do what you have. We can only do so much.

Problems? More on class management and methodology. For one, rote-learning is still an in-thing here. Of course, there is the huge class size which open up A WHOLE LOT OF PROBLEMS. How can give more writing and practical exams when you got 300 kids? By the time I'm through checking the kind of exams I have in mind, the term is practically over.

The Ministry of Education keeps on expounding the modern method of the student-centered approach. But how is this possible when you got a humongous class size?

No, I also have some work to do during the weekend, but hopefully only a few hours.

How is life otherwise? I'm extremely well, a bit tired, but things are unfolding very well here in my little universe

I'm not completely giving up on Physics. My plan has always been to double major, get my Bachelor's(sp?) degrees. Then while getting Masters and Ph.D., also get my B.S. in something else. I'll probably have Physics be the "something else."

There are several reasons I'm thinking of doing this. One is the fact that I want to someday be able to fund my own research. Also, one of my main goals is ftl Travel, though, at hte rate things are going, ftl travel might be a reality before I would get the chance to do my research.

I've also got a lot of other "passions" popping up unexpectedly when before I was mainly focused just on physics. I've considered becoming a writer, but I don't think I'm good enough. I'm also considering majoring in Foriegn Languages.

As for me, working on weekends is more as a therapy and keeps me from getting homesick.

Though a few drinking binges is definitely something I do to "calm my nerves."
