Carsomyr +6 question
Other than the +1 to hit and damage, are there any other benefits to upgrading Carsomyr? Does the Dispel Magic go higher in level?

Kabayan, sad to say there is notjing much left... however if memory serves me, it is +12 vs chaotic evil as opposed to the former +10.
Dispel Magic is still the same - depending on your level and the caster's.

Carsomyr is a weapon of legend, perhaps one of the most powerful blades ever forged on Faerun, though its origin and history is thought purposefully forgotten, such that the sword itself never overshadow the importance of the struggles that must be fought today. It is infused with the very essence of virtue, and requires as much from any paladin that would hope to wield it.
The evils of the Realms must truly stand aside when this weapon is brought to bear, their magic dispelled with a word, steadfastly resisted with ease.
Carsomyr also harbors a special distaste for the forces of evil and chaos, and such creatures must fear additional damage from its touch in battle.

That is also a result of the increased enchantment. The normal speed factor and weight of a two-handed sword is 10 and 12 respectively. With the +5 enchantment it is subtracted from those numbers, producing 5 and 7. Going to +6 will naturally drop this to 4 and 6. Every modifier which was 5 will now be 6, just as the difference between a +1 dagger and a +2 dagger.

Enchantment does affect speed factor for everything except items which are magically "quick"(Short Sword of Backstabbing) or "slow"(Answerer) - check it if you want. All separate types of weapon have a different speed factor, which is then modified by enchantment.

what does the eye of tyr do when you put it in the purifier, though?

Basically, both the Carsomyr and the Purifier have their own good points. The Carsomyr does more Damage and has better Magic Resistance, and the fact that you DONT NEED TO CAST a dispel magic to work (ie. u need to just hit the spellcaster).. that's ALWAYS in my books a good thing! haha..
But the Purifier is faster, and does a slightly more base damage (2d8 instead of 1d12).
But, it really boils down to the fact on which weapon proficiency did you opt for. If you are better with Bastard swords... use the Purifier.. if u are better with 2HD.. use the Carsomyr.
Ok, this is a dumb qu, but to anyone out there who has ever used a Bastard Sword.. is it two handed?!?! haha. I dunno coz i nvr used them.
But the Purifier is faster, and does a slightly more base damage (2d8 instead of 1d12).

Well, a Bastard sword is one-handed. It does 2d4 damage, not 2d8, so it does 2/3 base damage of the holy avenger.

Purifier is much better since you can dual weild it with Foebane and you've got yourself one mean paladin

Hmm...a flail is meant to be one of the hardest weapons to master - so putting it in your left hand, and having another weapon as well is NOT ON. Oh well, that's gaming for you - time for the suspension bridge of disbelief...

It`s not a question of having great strength or being ambidextrous, the blades are too long. The principle of dual wielding is to have a short blade to deflect attacks or to make feint attacks. At least one of the blades must be short so it can moove around freely, avoiding being hindered by the long blade and viceversa.
