We'll be able to "enter the minds" of our familiars and control them (leaving the mage concentrating). Too bad birds don't really fly in NWN. :( I wonder if the Toad will be as quick on its feet as the Weasel. :D

I think most of the time, my familiar would just travel in my backpack as in BG2.
Don't think I would use it either to scry and/or scout for me.
Again in Argyle, much of my time would go with not looking like a wizard :)

Ahh,Xyx, have you no imagination!!! :D ;)

Heavy shuffling as he sits down, the squishy sound as his big fat a#¤% hits the seat, smacking of moist lips and the sound of drool hitting the table. Throw in some heavy breathing and growls and you got it! :p

Thanks for enlightening me, Classic. :)

Xandax, anyone, how would we best go about not looking like mages?

I was thinking of passing myself off as one of those sissy Bards. Much as the idea offends me, it has some practical merit... I was already planning on carrying a Chain Shirt, bow and longsword anyway, so all I'd have to do is throw in a lute or something. :D

Doesnt a chain shirt give like 20% spell failure? I would go for a shield, that only gives about 5% i think, and it makes you look unmagelike enough. *shudder*

Well on the positive side - a monk dresses awfully like a wizard :)
But then again, I think that would count against the monks, being mistaken for us mighty wizards  , so that is proberly not a good way to dress.

But when running around in cities and the general population, I also consider donning on a chain or simply leather armour and calling me a rogue or fighter.
The bardthingy wouldn't work for me, because people always seem to throw stuff at me when performing - huh, maybe it does work :D

My theory is walk in normal clothes and armour and wield normal weapons, then one might be passable.

I may be just a paladin with no buisness being here  , but I'll stick my nose into your buisness anyway. :D

Why not get the rest of your party into the act? You dress as a merchant, I'll dress as a bodyguard. I've got no problem with that. (though getting Nippy willing to dress down out of his shiny suit of field dress plate might be a whole different problem entirely). ;)

Yeah - your just a pally, you don't have the entrie (almost) realm of Argyle hunting you down :D

But of course I forsee no problem, if we wizards dress up in shining armour and mix with the pallies :D
If only then somebody don't ask the pallies if us dressed up wizards are infact also pallies.
They can' lie these rightous people, even if our life depends on it :D

Well..., you can certainly understand where they're coming from. You (mages) have a reputation to mend. Doesn't it make sense to travel incognito while doing so?

Can't lie?!? *glances around to make sure Wing Leader isn't watching* I'm a progressive paladin. ;) :D Sure we can. It's for protecting your life, isn't it? Besides, haven't you ever bought and sold something? What are the credentials for being a merchant? Don't you qualify?
And..., as a paladin, I can still get disguise as a skill. You think paladins can't be deceptive? Sit back and watch! :D :D

Which is the greater evil? Not helping you maintain your disguise so we can keep an evil sorceror from turning the entire countryside into undead or lying to keep up your disguise? No debate. It's all about our motivation. That's part of the joys of having a human DM. I'll cover for you. ;)

Speaking of appearance how will you be able to choose your appearance? in Diablo it was quit hard making a barbarian looking like a sorc. no matter what you put on him since he was twice as tall and twice as wide. SoA you can change the appearance a lot but it is still limited since most of the items are for one or two specific classes. I saw in a trailer for NWN, I believe it was a druid with a chainmail and a great sword! If that is what they can carry why cant a wizard and it would be pretty easy to cover him/her up

Err..., uh..., we are honourable. Yeah! And resourceful. And crafty. And righteous. And we (I) don't want to have to explain my controversial actions any more than I have to. It gets tedius. Can't you just trust me?!? ;) :D :D

Yes, it does appear you'll be able to customize your appearance a great deal. I just hope you'll be able to blend in with the city if you want. I don't like that in SoA, wyou can instantly tell an adventurer from a commoner. Can't a mage (or paladin if needed) dress as a commoner? I hope so.

Anybody can put on armour and thereby change apperance.
Anybody can run aroung waving a sword.
Or anybody can thrown on a robe.
This way if you see somebody with armour you don't know for sure if they are figthers or not :)

I for instance plan on my main weapon being a crossbow - that would set me apart for the mages of BG2 for starters and maybe fool somebody up front :)
(Or at least - that is how it is planned)

I think a bard is the best thing so far, after all it does motivate some low level spell casting.

the disturbing thing with all this is a wizard want himself to be spotted, i mean the whole point of the robes and the pointy hat is that others sould recoginze him and fear him(or atleast show proper respect) perhaps one can just hide in a tower or cellar or whaterver, sending his trusted familiar out on the mundane errands, this way you can keep your dignity and still be reasonably safe, apart from that occasional enraged mob ofcourse :)

But unfortunally a wizard can't increase in level by simply studing tomes, he needs to adventure with the rest of the people.
Therefore one must venture out into the world, and IIRC Argylian wilderness is dangerous, wich only leaves cities for startes :)
(and some of these are also dangerous)

If this Argyle place is so hostile towards wizards wouldn´t it be dangerous to be a spell casting bard too? They are after all casting wizard spells.

By the way you can choose between a variety of sizes and shapes for your character in each race. You could make your wizard 2 meters tall and wide shouldered. Grab a long sword and nobody would have a clue. ´Course you might not like playing a huge spellcaster!?

Well a bard is certainly in danger of being mistaken for a wizard.

And AFAIK you will be able to customise your avatar somewhat, I've read somewhere that there some body types one could choose from.
