Ive posted this already.. but Jan Jansen deserves two posts.

Jan is the "gnome" when it comes to mouse traps inside crypts and ruins (put ALL points into traps and locks). Also thanx to those Illusion spells and cloak of non-detection, is the finest sneak. Armed with his 'frazelthingy chucker' and disable/dispel spells, he makes an incomparable Mage Slayer. Imowho? :p

You have to adore all his interactions, espesialy his ToB ending.. "when you have that many Monkeys, anything is possible" ;)

Priceless.

If I'd have to solo an exact copy of one of the NPCs, it would be either...

Aerie: You can never have too many spells, and with Tenser's and good armor, all she lacks is an extra attack.

Jaheira: Fights, heals, annoys Mages.

Jan: Sneaks, backstabs, sets traps, and, again, Tenser's. Many spells in ToB.

Imoen: Same as Jan, but with more emphasis on spells (Project Image, Simulacrum...) in SoA.

Anomen: Good tank (with the Gauntlets and Draw Upon Holy Might) and decent Cleric.

Keldorn: Good tank (again, the Gauntlets), no problems with Mages.

Haer'Dalis: Swiss army knife.

Valygar: Sneak, backstab, decent spells for a warrior.

Personality: love the evil ones, but I still have to vote for Jan. I love the way he always has something to say to the big villains right when they're laying down the law. The other night, an enemy mage cast timestop, and Jan started talking right in the middle of it! Now THAT'S personality!

Practicality: I am finding that Jaheira's class combo is really cool in TOB...She gets special abilities in Druid, Cleric, and Fighter, so she can summon greater elementals and either fallen or regular devas, but she can also transform into the crazy big earth elemental and greater whirlwind (finished off a few that way.)
May you walk on warrrrm sannd....

Personality: *Most* personality has to be Jan. *Nicest* personality goes to Mazzy because of her high morals, helpfulness and simply for being so polite.

Practicality: Jan takes the victory here. Extremely useful thief (especially so since you won't find many others). Comes ready-to-go with great gears. And as an extra bonus, he doubles as a specialist mage (with one of the best kits, too, IMO).

As above ; Harry dalis.

Provides thief, mage and tank support all in one. Most complex and therefore most RPG-ish character in the game.
@Fable-san...To compensate for his lack of HP's I always a) Stone Skin b) Vampiric Touch. The Vampiric touch almost always doubles his HP's. I think he gets a bonus to Vamp touch because he once jumped from 49 Hp's to 215Hp's after one VT. He can also wear Elven chain mail whilst casting spells.
And he plays a mean Eukele :D
His Offensive spin with taht anti-dexterity sword is quite bloody devasting( said in Fezek's broadest Lancastrian accent).

For me, it's Keldorn all the way. First of all, he's a mage-killer of the highest order, and uber-mages are always the ones which cause me the most trouble. I like his personality as well; he reminds me a lot of my grandfather -- they even look a bit similar!

For me it is propably Mazzy. She is so noble and gentle and all those things a paladin should be and Keldorn isn't. Still... Viconia is the other opposite. She has a wonderful personality too. She's almost like Keldorn but with a reason for her behavior. ;)

The most useful is propably Jan or Jaheira. They have very useful and unique combination of skills and get along with everyone. :D

personality- Viconia or Jaheira, can't decide. The only thing I don't like about Jaheira is the accent. I mean I can practically picture the spittle flying forth when she shouts. Viconia however, is a woman who knows what she wants and how she wants to get it.

practicality- It galls me to say it, but Anal-man. I mean sure, he falls flat in the previous category, but my pc aside, he's the 2nd best tank I've come across. (Sarevok and Korgan tied for first, Korgan gets more attacks with cooler weapons, but Sarevok gets in a deathbringer, and it's good-bye to the ankle-biter) He is incredibly durable, he can get good armor, and unless Korgan is around, he gets Crom Faeyr, which makes him a big mean monster. Also, cleric spells are very nice. I keep trying to kill him by sending him into swarms of melee attackers, but it never friggin works ! He keeps killing them !

Personality: Jan, for the character's droll sense of humor, somber appearance and excellent delivery.

Performance: Keldorn, Saverok, Jaheira or Viconia. Even without those super-weapons, those four could probably find ways to stop a truck and flatten it very quickly.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Personality: This is hard. All around, Jaheira is probably the most well-developed character, if a little abrasive sometimes. Imoen too has depth, her quirky sense of humor contrasted by the growing taint within her. Speaking of depth, I also have to mention the PC's other sibling, especially when you convince him to change his ways. Sarevok's development is interesting - from a mortal enemy into a barely-tolerated ally and finally a troubled seeker-of-redemption who you can even call a friend.

Utility: Keldorn, for reasons already mentioned. True Sight on demand absolutely invaluable. I also like Jaheira, Aerie and Imoen because of their versatility.

This is a tough one...

1. I'd say Jan or Keldorn. Jan because of his sense of humor and Keldorn...it's just his personality overall. I like to have both with me, they have nice conversations :D Though Minsc is fun too...hard to tell.

2. Probably Keldorn...or Jan. The reasons are mentioned earlier in this topic. Haven't tried Sarevok yet, though, but I really don't like his attitude.
Centuries ago in England........It was an era of chivalry and magic. The evil Prince John unleashed an iron fist of tyranny upon the people. They called out for a champion.........one man answered that call. His name, was Robin Hood. Fearless in his quest for justice Robin Hood challenged the power of the high warlords. While protecting the helpless and the poor. Willing to face death for what he believed, along with the beautiful, lady warrior, Jaheira, the mighty Minsc, and the wise Keldorn. Robin Hood forged a legend that lives on today in............

Personality- Jan of course !!!!
He get dialog with everything that moves !
and every dialog takes almost 10 minutes to read (If you want to read all the stories jan has to tell). And it;s always funny !

:p :p :p

Practical- I would say mazzy with the gesen bow. She can hit almost anything, good against mages (Spell failure) and agianst dragons, while others keep the dragon busy mazzy attacks him with the gesen bolts. :D
Cheating isn't a bad thing !
it's just another way to win...

For both I'd have to go with Keldorn. Throughout SoA and into ToB he takes on a paternal-like role, yet doesn't act one-dimentionally in doing so.

He is patient with Anomen and does not dwell on his past transgressions which is what you expect out of a true noble-type paladin, but also what we expect from our parents in general.

The two bits between him and Yoshimo are curious - he's quite abrupt with him regarding his family, which is what you expect in a sense. Then there's the whole bit with the poem written in the margins of a religious text where he gets embarrased.

He's troubled by the protaganists past and worries about it. Yet when it looks like good is winning out, he comments on how little by little, good wins out. He does this without forcing himself down the protaganists throat (unlike say, oh...I don't know...Anomen?). It looks like if your reputation falls too low, he will apologize and then explain why he has to kill you. He doesn't lecture you (as you'd expect Anomen might) to boot!

He has no problems with Haer'Dalis, and seems to joke with the bard! An interesting display to say the least, coming from someone that initially looks like your typical cookie-cutter Paladin goody-two-shoes type. On the flip side, he doesn't like Jan's humor one bit.

His theological discussions with Cernd and Aerie show that certain "with age comes wisdom" cliche.

Even his ending is very appropriate, one of the few I found no real fault with.

My only quibble is the lack of interaction with Mazzy. The one bit they have in ToB is just a "I respect you a lot" "Same here" which is rather shallow IMO. Especially given Mazzy's "really a paladin, just called a warrior" characteristics.

I'll be correcting that little oversight ;)

Add all that to the most brutal and effective spell-defense stripping ability, true-sight on demand, and Carsomyr (or Ravager or Firetooth!) - all in all a very well built character from both a RPGer's and Powergamer's viewpoints.

I'm going to stick with Jaheira for personality, but I'm now filing her as most practical too.

She can cast defence spells, she can handle enemy magic users with Insect Swarm and Miscast Magic, she can also be by far the best tank you have.

Jaheira in my party currently has AC -10, which can be taken down to -13 with a couple of spells. Backed up with Iron Skins this makes her virtually invincible in close combat. The right potions or scrolls or backup, take care of the magic defence element.

Shame the best Club that I know of (in SoA) is +2, that's the only limiting factor.

Best Club AFAIK in SoA is +3...the Black-Biter (as I recall). You can buy it in Trademeet. It is a +3 club that does Acid Damage. I *always* use it as Jaheira's backup weapon (when the +2 Belm doesn't hit).

Personality would have to go to keldorn for his way of understanding the PC and being well keldorn, jan is funny ,minsc is funny especially when you get himn to tlak to the pirate lord for entrance to spellhold(classic dialouge)......i would pick Coran from BG but he is not a avaible party memebr which totally sucks majorly

Keldorn is a must have for a good netrual party jan is fun to have with anomen and minsc is also a must have for comedy and tank purposes(i noticed that minsc and lilacor would seem like a perfect match to me,a talking sword with a rightetous ranger thats taking to many hits on the hand.)

*mental note* Go buy +3 club

Got her to -11 AC now, -14 with two spells. Can't wait to get Drow armour :)

What I really hate about that club, Blackblood, is that it looks like a red MACE on the inventory screen. Not very "clubish" at all. At least it did in SoA.
