Am I close to being right? :D I try to find the good in both worlds-the true RPGs and the hack and slash RPGs. I find there is a time and a place for both.

Exactly right. It was the plot's replayability that got me into BG sage... the first game, especially. BG1 had the best plot, IMO.
That's the reason why I despise Icewind so much. I miss NPCs, extra quests that have nothing to do with the main plot, and just the general gameplay hours. I was addicted to BG, so Icewind was a major let-down for me.
I am a true RPGer, I suppose.

Yes YES! thats the way I feel. I found with the NPCs in Baldurs Gate 2, playing with the NPCs was much more fun then playing with 6 of your own characters.

As far as side quests and avoiding the main plot is concerned-well thats one big thing I like about Morrowind. While there arent NPCs there are hundreds of random quests that are skewed about in that game and if you wanted you could avoid the main plot all together.

Strangely enough, even though I dont want to turn this into a Baldurs Gate 1vs 2 conversation, I found Baldurs Gate 1 to be lacking plot....severly. I got detatched from that game much quicker than Baldurs Gate 2. I played Baldurs Gate 2 3 times. Baldurs Gate 1, I played once. Baldurs Gate 2 had so much more to it, and a bit more direction to where you were headed in the game while Baldurs Gate 1 sort of said, "heres some wilderness....explore!" And that was a problem....it was really hard for me to stabalize a group because there wasnt an obvious place to find NPCs and there was just too much wilderness... I will say 1 thing that Baldurs Gate 1 had that significantly beats Baldurs Gate 2- the amount of NPCs....I liked the large amount of NPCs in 1 over 2. And most importantly-XAN! He was awesome....Always gave me a good laugh. :D

Alright... If you won't make this into a BG1 vs 2 thread, then were do I post to make a new one? *Grin*

I thought all of the wilderness areas were the best part, actually.... Gave my charactors a chance to level up, and the thrill of finding that "impossible to beat" enemy lurking somewhere in the woods was just so cool for me. You never knew where you would find NPCs (Viccie's rescue to get her to join the party was completely unexpected and fun for me), so I was fine with that.
I can't say much for party interactions for BG1 (I remember Jaheira and Khalid having as many as two dialogs together through the whole game, wierd considering they were hitched...), but that's another reason why I like SoA tons. I've played completely through SoA with Lorlei, Seteal, Eva Reena, Delara and Simbul, and plan to play through with a Bard as my PC and am still not sick of it. You get more dialogs every game, which is just so much fun.

Spamming this thread, aren't we?

Hmmm...well I dont feel like making a new thread...and Im sure there is a thread SOMEWHERE out there that has this debate.....but oh well...we'll just continue it here. :D

Lets see....I hated the fact there was potential of a creature that was too high a level had potential of beating the crap out of my party....Here are some reasons:
1) It makes me lose confidence in my party...discouraged...
2) With my already high state of nervousness....having that situation made it worse...I fought headaches...I fought stress...but gosh darn it...I WAS going to defeat the dang basilisks! (or whatever I was facing)! :D
3) Well I usually either give up the ghost really early or NEVER give up the ghost. I did both-sometimes putting no effort into a fight I should have tried and often just ran away from that spot from there on out....Or I tried beyond belief different strategies to beat the situation. Time passes, and I keep trying....eventually I try to find ways to cheese my way through it. Gosh darn it....it was frustrating....But I did it!

Granted finally finding an NPC you knew was out there was fun and exciting.

I also didnt like how the plot was introduced or practiced. I think I found that also frustrating. For a while I just didnt feel like there was any plot at all.

@AC
If you realy want a good RPG game, try the final fantasy series.
If you buy part X, you at least get true money for you're playstion2, the grafix are great, and the gameplay and the sound is realy good to.
Part VII(my personal faforite) and IX are also very good (and a lot cheaper)
I dont realy like part VIII but that's my personal oppinion.
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

I played X from the day I got it to when I beat it almost non-stop. Definately worth every penny. Actually, same for the others. But I never beat IX. It messed up on my Playstation, but it works on the PS2, but by the time I got one I had other games to play. Maybe I'll start playing that...
I need a sig.

I must be the only person who thinks Final Fantasy isnt very good. I think it is highly over-rated and I simply just got bored of that game.

I like the Final Fantasy series....been hooked ever since the original on the NES. I know a lot of people didn't like FF8, but I can understand that. It followed what has to be one of the coolest games of all time in 7, and I think they went a little over the top with the cinema part. I found the game myself to be great, but the long in game movies really started to irritate me, esp when you replay the game. That, and the Summoning thing was WAYYY to much in that installment. You basically have no challenge in combat for the most part later in the game because you can summon so fast and the GF's are so powerful

Stiil, the series definatly has the ability to draw you into the plots. I still haven't played anything after 8 though, my PS died before 9, and I haven't gotten another yet  :D

I don't like FF8 because of the drawing, it's just irritating to do, and i like te materia option (7) ir the speheregrid(10) much better then putting youre drawed ability's on a GF space (what's that called again)
The story starts out realy dull, but becomes very good at the end.
I realy can recommand playing 9 and 10 (there is a new shorted summon-movie option :D :D :D )

PS. maybe whe should make a FF thread ;)

I thought the Draw option was a cool idea, but it wasn't implemented as fluidly as it could have been. I have to admit, I hated standing there just drawing from my enimies.

Shortened summon? that would be a Godsend.....the graphics were cool, but after awhile, well, it can't be amazing everytime.

I wonder if there has ever been an ff thread? :D

Well, I saw a copy of FF8 when I was looking for a new computer at Best Buy, but I think if I want to play it, I would start with part one before anything else. However, I think I'm just going to save up by putting PS2 games away until I get my new compter all payed off and such.

Dark Alliance... Somebody give me some inspiration to pick that thing up again, please.

Well it gets better....but its not your kind of RPG, as its plot is just as thick as a piece of lined paper. If you feel the need to relieve stress or want to admire beautiful graphics or face so pretty cool creatures, then you should play again. But if you are looking to get emersed into plot, it would be like a deep sea diver in a river that is 2ft in depth. Sorry.... :( :D

Well as far as FF is concerned, everyone recommends it but I. I just simply got bored of it. Its one of the very few RPGs I have put down, and I almost NEVER put down an RPG. I play all the different styles of RPGs. However the graphics are beautiful. I never got myself into the game enough to get into it. And thats because I just found myself not wanting to play it. IMO it gets a 3/10.

*frusterated sigh* So, there is no pattern to this, really? No path to follow, or directions to read? I'm stuck, and could use the PS2 when I lose this computer...

What do you mean by pattern?

And no....a console could never EVER replace a PC. If you lose the computer get a new one. Thats really your only option there...

I am getting a new one. I have to dump this computer in a few days to get some reusable parts inspected/pawned though (which may also be a reason for a sudden absence, by the way).

I love this new computer I'm getting... It's a Dell, and the keyboard is wireless - like a remote control, kinda!

Thinking about starting another round of BG2, but it would be pretty pointless if I dissasemble this compie *growls*

Ah...a Dell. Good choice. I must concur that this is a good computer. Not familiar with wireless keyboards, nor do I find a whole lot of use for them, but I guess thats cool. :D Wireless mice...now that is the big wireless component thats important.

...unless of course you were referring to 8, which i hated. i would, however, sell my soul to squaresoft for another one as good as 7, although 9 is growing on me, and i haven't played 10 yet.
