I'm at the little mind flayer dungeon, the one you enter when thru the sewers with Tazok's key.
No Brine Potions, just a buttload of mindflayers. I have a shield of Harmony which is suppose to grant immunity to hold, confusion, charm, and stuns. But it doesn't work. Is that a bug?
Ok, Mind Flayers suck *Spoiler-ish*

The only thing you need is a priest with the spell Chaos Commands memorized a few times. Just cast it on some of your fighters then and have some long distance fighter standing in the back and provide firepower. Yuor fighters will be immune to the confusion thingies they cast. You just have to be aware of that those ****ing Mind Flayers can kill you in 2 single strikes, which by the way is very annoying!!!

Regarding the mind flayer intelligence drain. Does it have a lingering effect. I could swear that some of my fighters die after one strike...Okay, they aren't renowned for their brain power but with a intelligence of 8, they should be able to take one @mind suck' but they always die a couple of rounds later! Any answers?
I'm not entirely sure. I do know that the effect wears off after a short while, returning the Intelligence to the level it should be.
Could it be that the character got hit twice in *very* short succession??
I've also seen that this kind of attack usually does some 1 or 2 points of damage ... could it be that the damage of 2 also drains 5 Intelligence points TWICE?? I didn't test this ...
Best way to deal with them I have found (my brother pointed me to it), is to use a Thief-character, with Boots of Speed. Hide in the Shadows, with the rest of your party far away, and move the Thief into the room that contains a number of them. Back-stab the one nearest the exit, and immediatly run out of the room. Some will follow, but you should out-run them easily. Once they're out of view, Hide in the Shadows. Repeat this process (starting with the ones that chased you), until the room has been cleared. If you have to retreat all the way to the area with the rest of your party, gang up on the Mind Flayers that chased you, before they can suck your brains out.
And as always, SAVE OFTEN!
