The twisted rune*, can be easly accomplished by a low level party as soon as you get the mage strong hold and do the slavers quest,

its all a matter of tactics and swag

Cheers MitchMc

*wiemers improved version for sure, I havent played the vanilla version that I can remember.......

I agree... However, for first-time players who might not have considered the tactics and strategy often inherent to BG2 battles this might not be immediately apparent...

lol! *hug* well that is your call, but getting some of those items first might be worth it as well :D
You can also get a very nice item if you go into the pub in the City Gates area.. have your thief on "detect traps" mode.. and the wall will reveal a secret door.. ;)

This is something I hear about but have yet to pick up on and understand......what exactly do you mean by "Chapters"......is that where they play the little intro with a narrator telling you what is going on?

They played one when we escaped Irenicus's dungeon.

One when Irenicus escaped the Cowelled Wizards

And another one recently....but I don't remember what it was

BTW, I am looking for a 'Freedom' spell, but they do not have one at the adventurer's mart. I have also looked at several other merchants in the area, adn the fence in the sewers in the Temple district, but have not found one yet. If you want to give me that spoiler, I certainly wouldnt complain :D ;)

Yes. It's a feature that first began with Betrayal at Krondor.

To see which Chapter you're in, look in your Journal (click on the third button from the top on the lefthand side of your screen).

Without giving you any major spoilers, the Chapters are as follows:

Chapter One takes place in Irenicus's dungeon and Waukeen's Promenade. The theme of the chapter is that you need to escape from your captor and get your bearings. As soon as you enter the Slums District and talk to Gaelan Bayle, Chapter Two begins. The theme of the chapter is that you need to raise a bunch of gold and pay someone to take you to Spellhold. As soon as you make a deal with Aran Linvail or Bodhi, Chapter Three begins. The theme of Chapter Three is that you need to get involved in the guild war. When your tasks are complete, you leave for Spellhold, and Chapter Four begins. Chapter Five takes you somewhere besides Spellhold and Athkatla, and Chapter Six begins when you head back to Athkatla. Chapter Seven is the final chapter. In Chapters Four and Five, you can't go to areas that were accessible in Chapters Two and Three until you reach Chapter Six, so pack a lunch. :)

As for the scroll of Freedom, I meant that I can only think of one place where you can get one. (Actually, there are about four available from the same merchant.) I wish I could help you, but I just can't think of another place to buy one (or find one). Have you checked the merchants in Trademeet?

I would try the checking at the various temples. I don't believe there are any merchants that sell Freedom scrolls other than the ones in Chap 5 & 6 that VonDondu already mentioned. It is a 9th level spell, so it stands to reason that the scrolls wouldn't be readilly available. But I'm not absolutely certain...

SPOILER about the Twisted Rune (highlight to read):
If you do decide to go after the Twisted Rune, you will need a rogue stone to get through the door. I would advise getting the one from the Guarded Compound in the Temple district, since it is seems to be specifically designed for this quest. Also, that will give you another major battle to fight first, which will better prepare you for the TW.

Well, the Pally I took from BG1 and made into a Cavalier seems to kick quite a bit of but, having 19 for Str, Con, and Cha, 17 to Dex and Wis, and 10 Int. Never before have I seen Mind Flayers wish they had day jobs(with some challenge), ever! Really made my day when I saw that. Funny, that class just seems to work the best for me in the entire series and in IWD2 as well. I hope this kinda helps you feel a little better about pallies, okay? ;)

Still, what class have you had the best luck with? Do you prefer warriors, or do have better games with any other classes?

Unfortunately, I haven't tried them. It has actually been quite a while since I've played Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal, and either the MODs weren't available back then, or I wasn't sure how "balanced" they were. Sometimes, fans who create MODs get a little carried away. I once tried Improved Illyich and Improved Demogorgon, and I just couldn't handle it. :) I'm not the best player in the world, but I could probably use a little more challenge the next time I play, and there are actually several MODs I would like to try. If I can figure out which MODs can be installed with other MODs without creating complications, I'll give them a try sometime.

Sorcerer's Net lists several MODs I'd like to install: Ascension, Ease-of-Use, Redemption, Item Upgrade, Tactics, Imoen Romance, Tashia Romance, Oversight, Big Picture Compatibility, Dungeon-Be-Gone, and perhaps Tortured Souls if it's compatible. I've already played Ascension, and I don't think I'll ever play Throne of Bhaal without it.

It has been a while since I last played the game myself, too. And probably I am worse player than you are, trust me! :) I haven't tried Improved Illyich, but I can tell you that all the Improved Something are a real pain!! Bodhi is real powerful, even in Normal difficulty; Irenicus (in the Final Batlle) is extremely difficult and it took me a lot of reloads and thinking as to how I was supposed to beat him. As for Ascension, I have won it just once. Sendai is very annoying, and having my party being killed time after time is not fun at all...

Have you installed Multiple Strongholds pack? A mage's stronghold is usually the Planar Sphere (in the Slums).
