Leaving Imoen
Leaving Imoen
I was just wondering how the story progresses if you leave the dungeon without Imoen in your party or even better what happens if she gets killed in the dungeon?

I believe once she is rescued from Spellhold, her fate doesn't matter much. I've only actually taken her once and the other times dumped her as soon as I acquired her.
Leaving her behind or her death has never impacted the progress of the game for me. There might be some quests and other tidbits you'll miss out on by not having around, but her presence isn't required.

Crush enemies, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of the women.
Just an interesting tidbit..
If you try to leave Imoen in the Spellhold dungeon and Keldorn is in your party, he threatens to leave so that she can go with you. It doesn't matter much, he only walks a few feet away then becomes blued, so you can talk to him and recruit him again.

If you mean the first dungeon (highlite to read)
Imoen can't die. Anytime her hit points get low enough, she freaks out and leaves your party. Either way, leave her, or try to get her killed, and she just shows up once you exit Irenicus dungeon. She'll make her way out in either instance, and the storyline will progress from there.

regarding the tangent about spellhold (little spoiler):
On spellhold:
Even Korgan is unhappy with the PC and gives him/her some flak (less than Keldorn though) if you don't rescue her.
On the actual point:
Immy's behavior in the 1st dungeon is due to the belt, right? Though if you ditch her, she understandably complains. I can't help from feeling guilty about that one...

Tired of working here wanted a holiday was thinking of retiring probably going to die. Time to move on under down... down down.
Even if you kill Imoen in Irenicus's dungeon (it can be done if you remove her belt, with Disintegrate, for instance), she will still show up in the cut-scene in Waukeen's Promenade. The show must go on. The programmers didn't want her getting killed, and they tried to allow for lots of contigencies and did it in a way that preserves as much continuity as possible.
For what it's worth, several of the NPCs offer to leave the party to make room for Imoen if you tell her she's on her own. It doesn't make much sense to go all the way to Spellhold and then not rescue her. Again, the programmers just wanted to preserve as much continuity as possible even if players aren't concerned about Imoen's well-being.

if you kill imoen...that defines that you are evil, and if you are evil you are probably going to spellhold to kill jon/untap your power, therefore you wouldnt care about imoen so its ok if she dies.......right?

Have you ever heard any more inspiring or logical words? I sure haven't.

Do NPC's who are left behind find their way back to the mainland?
IIRC, they won't get back to the mainland if you leave them in Spellhold. If you remove them once you've escaped the asylum, they'll find their way back just fine.

You can't remove it inside the game. You have to use a saved game editor like ShadowKeeper.Originally posted by IHateUsernames

My memory is pretty foggy about this issue at the moment, so I might have made a mistake in my previous post. I did some experiments with Imoen nearly three years ago, and I haven't tried to kill her since then. (It's not something I want to do.) I remember that the belt protects her from spells that could kill her, such as Petrification, Disintegration, etc. There's also something that keeps her from going below 1 hit point (if she reaches 1 hit point, she says "I'm not dying here" and she runs away and you meet her again in Waukeen's Promenade), but I can't remember whether the belt is what keeps her from going below 1 hit point or whether it's an Effect the designers gave her (which protects her even if you remove the belt, which is the way I remember it, although I might be wrong). Now that I think about it, if the belt is the only thing that keeps her from going below 1 hit point, then if you take the belt off her, you don't have to do anything special to kill her (as long as she goes from, say, 5 hit points directly to 0 hit points or less without hitting exactly 1 hit point, which will make her run away). The reason why I suggested Disintegration is because I once had her cast it on herself by reading a scroll when she wasn't wearing the belt, and it killed her. Otherwise, I don't remember many details. Maybe she doesn't have ANY protection if you remove her belt. But I will leave the experimenting to the people who want to kill her.
If Yoshimo dies before you get to Spellhold, or if you don't keep him in your party, then he doesn't go to Spellhold with you. His presence isn't required. It's that simple. (If you want a spoiler, and I don't recommend it, then read the spoiler below. But don't say I didn't warn you.) By contrast, if Imoen died before you made it out of Irenicus's dungeon, the story wouldn't make sense (how could she be kidnapped?). So that's why the game designers thought of a way to protect Imoen but no one else.
SPOILER (highlight to read)
If Yoshimo doesn't go to Spellhold with you, someone who isn't in your party puts sleeping pills in your soup. I hope that's all you need to know.

Anyone ever try killing off every NPC and seeing how the game progresses?
I've never tried it or heard of anyone who has, but I dont think it would prevent you from finishing the game. You won't have much gold, though, and way to many items, if you kill all the merchants and such
If I asked, would you answer? Its your problem. Its a deep, deep problem. I have no way to ask about that... I have no elegant way of stepping into your heart without tracking in filth. So I will wait. Someday, when you want to tell me, tell me then. -Bleach
