Carth's intervention.
Carth's intervention.
SPOILER ALERT.
Okay, so I defeated Malak while aligned with the dark side. Then I pass through the doors and Carth's standing there as per his promise not to "give up" on me. So, I'm thinking I'll be able to kill Bastila and save Carth, turning to the light at the very last. That would be a good plot twist, right? But I've played out the conversation every possible way and it seems that every option results in Carth's death? Is this disappointing shortcoming in plot development inevitible, or has someone else managed to bring about an alternate ending?

I know you... A pace, a glance, a turn of the head, the flash of your throat as you breathe... -- they were all my spies!

Carth is still alive?
Usualy when I align to the "Dark Side" Carth dies on the
Unknown World when I ask who'll be with me to go kill
Malak.
(This is after I went into the temple with Juhani and Jolie
and accepted Bastila's invitation to retake the mantle of
Dark Sith Lord. Of course Juhani and Jolie didn't like that
and got their butt's kicked..)
But after I return to the Ebon Hawk from the Temple of the
Ancients, Carth runs off and I ended up killing Mission and
Big Z. The two droids and Canderous, and Bastila of course were the only one's left when I went to the Star Forge.

Léah is right, if you play a female character and turn to the dark site at the temple, Carth shows off on the star forge and wants to redeem you and then Bastila arrives, but all I can do then is kill him or make bastilla kill him, though I've heard that you could kill Bastilla and save Carth.
It seems to be another dialogue bug I think.

I forget where I read this, but apparently this was where they were originally going to put in a third ending. You would have been able to turn back to the lightside at the last minute, only to find that it was too late to escape the Star Forge before it was destroyed by the Republic fleet. You and Carth would die tragically in each other's arms.
As it is, the guys get to kiss Bastila, and all we get is a bunch of corny lines that lead nowhere

I was able to see this end by modifying the game save, the lines of the dialogue exists and have been recorded (it's like "OK, Bastila is dead so the republic can destroy the StarForge - I'm Sorry I wish we could have more time together - blahblahblah").
But it seems the developpers have decided to remove it at the last minute as the PC-Carth-Bastila "dialogue" does not allow to kill Bastila.
Maybe they figures out that too many people would find it nonsense to die deliberately at the very end. I think it would have been a good end though, making KoTOR even more different than other games.

Oh.. how sad.
Let's all cry. Come on.. 1..2...3.. cry!
That felt good.
Then my next character'll just have to be a man. Then I can be really awful to Carth and not have the little romance with him. Then it won't matter a lot if he dies.
Smaaart, Jens!

I don't have a sig, because when I can't come up with a good one I hate sigs.
