Things Toasty Update
Today, I decided to break new breakfast ground. Relying upon my extensive culinary instincts and uncanny knack for kitchen innovation, I forged ahead with variations of one of my all-time favorites, the onion bagel. Supplying myself with robust onion bagels from Lender's Bagel shoppe, I toasted them thoroughly, browning them to perfection as I paced upon the linoleum restlessly. I could feel inspiration floating about in the ether, and tastiness dancing in the air...ah, I fancy I understand how a young father, expecting the arrival of his first child, must feel upon the eve of delivery. Seizing the toasted specimens as soon as they emerged from the bake, I placed them upon my workbench with precision, focusing my attention soley upon transforming these rather bland little marvels of the baker's craft into a gift from the gods...
Slathering the bagels with generous amounts of Philadelphia cream cheese, the metamorphosis began. Retrieving slices of beefsteak tomato I had set aside beforehand, I applied the lightly salted giants of tomatoey goodness to the bed of cream cheese I had prepared for them...it was almost as if I could hear music tinkling upon the breeze as I did. Yes, it was a magical morning in the kitchen.
The most beautiful things in life are often the most simple. With the old adage gently echoing in my coffee-starved mind (the pot was still brewing), I topped the marvels off with a slice of Canadian bacon apiece. The music seemed to reach a crescendo then, rising to the rafters as I prepared to dig in to the work of my hands...
I liked it.
