On the character sheet, can you see the backstab multiplier? Also, do you use a thief weapon? Are you perhaps backstabbing a mage with stoneskin on? Are your thief failing his Hide in Shadows check before backstabbing?

Position your party in the shadows and let your thief try on your other party members, preferably those with high AC - if the thief doesn't hit, there will be no damage, of course.

That's why I like Stalkers better. Thieves have insane multiplier, but their rogue THACO is too high. Stalkers do only triple damage, but they can have ++ in weapons and they have warrior THACO.

Actually the table that was in the Stalker kit overview is wrong...their backstab is better than what was listed and I believe it can get up to 4x within the 2,950,000 XP cap. Once their little hiccup of losing the ability if they die and are resurrected is fixed, they are pretty good. :)

I fixed the table in the English Language Game Text Update.

Yep, it should be
1-8: x2
9-16: x3
17: x4

I won't care about double damage, but triple damage with STR 18/93, ++ in Katana and Celestial Fury is substantial. :D Not to mention Ranger's low THACO and Stalker's great stealth.

Yeah, that resurrected Stalker problem makes Valygar unhappy. I was thinking WTF? He had main hand THACO of 0 and he missed his backstab? Thanks for that fix.
