I like what my friends would call bad music, and what others would call glam rock but what i call rock like guns'n'roses, iron maiden, areosmith, bon jovi and the like.

I wouldn't say so, as punk is per definition supposed to be counter-culture. As soon as it becomes mainstream it can no longer be called punk, even if the musical style itself is completely unchanged.
Punk is about attitude, not about music.

How did you figure out which way a two ended symmetrical line was directed?

Me? Rock with lots of Roll. That excludes most of the 90s lot. If I wanna feel miserable, I watch CNN. Half of my music collection is also Classical, with the odd Jazz and Folk album thrown in.

Hey, anything from Eddie, Chuck, Jerry Lee, via the Stones, Zeppelin, Skynyrd, AC/DC, The Who, to ole metal like Sabs and Purple to Maiden, Priest, Van Halen and Crüe. It sort of goes on a break for 10 years after G'n'R with the arrival of the whiny sob-brigade, but things are definetly looking up with the new generation.

The Russian composers from the so called Golden and Silver Age, is my favorite music. Glazunov, Rimsky-Korsakov, Mussorsky, Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Stravinsky to name some of the most famous. Shostakovitch is my absolute favorite composer. Other composers I like are Chopin, Liszt and Vivaldi, for more modern classical music, Lygety and Schnittke are among my favorites. I also enjoy some older composers like Palestrina, Despres and Lassus and some Italian opera (esp Puccini and Verdi) if I'm in a good mood.

I also like jazz music, both traditional stuff like Lester Young and Billie Holiday, and contemporary like Keith Jarreth (yes, call me pretentious, I like James Joyce too

) and Roy Hargrove.

I absolutely adore Argentinian tango composer Astor Piazolla, Senegalese singer Yousson N'Dour (best male voice in popuolar music!), Icelandic singer Björk and the experimental band The Residents.

I also like some traditional Arabic music, some Old school hiphop and some old punk.

These hold true for me, as well. I'm also partial to a range of composers from the 16th century through the 20th, in a variety of cultures. Probably my Baroque composer is Monteverdi, with Mozart in the so-called Classical period. French, Hungarian and British 20th century composers also feature among my faves. I like opera a great deal--not Puccini, Strauss or Wagner, but Verdi, Rameau, Rimsky-Korsakov, Prokofiev, Smetana, Mozart and Cherubini.

Jazz is also something I greatly enjoy, especially the West Coast cool, East Coast bebop and post-bop musicians; people like Charlie Parker, Gerry Mulligan, Bud Powell, Stan Getz, etc. In folk music, I greatly enjoy Baltic, Hungarian, Balinese, Javanese, and Celtic stuff. In rock, I prefer the anti-establishment types before they're bought out (if it gets that far): early Rolling Stones, Frank Zappa, Captain Beefheart, early Police, early Beatles (before their own pretentiousness bought them out), etc.
