And a way to apologize if you accidently steal an item when you are just trying to talk to them. And maybe to make hand combat to damage available by like spiked gauntlets.

I hope that you have a few more social interaction options (spitting at people you don't like, poking, kicking [in a non-violent way :) ])
also, I think npcs should move around more, be able to dance, order drinks, talk to each other instead of stare into space... I also want there to be scars so I could tell my friends: and THIS is from the slaughterfish at Gnaar Mok! :D
I think they should keep it so that you can do the quests when you want but work out the few problem-solving factors like the annoying quests that can't be completed because you killed the guy thing. yes, it happens to the best of us. :o ;) :D

Honestly, you ought to be able to pick an item up in a store without any problem. Examine it, try it on, look in the mirror, guage th weight penalty, compare to your existing equipment, etc.

The illegal part should be LEAVING without putting it back. I always HATED that you couldn't even budge an item without getting caught. A lot of times I'd get caught just meaning to click on a door or something and accidently picking up an item.

Oops, you walked into the 7/11 and picked up a coke? Sorry sir, but you'll have to come with me.

As far as the other issues... Balance is my biggest hope. Less amazingness right from the start in terms of overpowering enemies, having incredible armor and weapons, and and ENDLESS supply of magical items. I really hated how ridiculously easy Morrowind was because of these balancing problems. It also made me dislike the other characters in the game. You've been alive for how many thousands of years, have performed how many thousands of holy quests, and yet I can kill you in how many hits? One? Yech, I hated it.

Above all, I want a proactive world. I want factions and guilds that take actions whether you're doing them or not, thus opening (and shutting) new avenues of activity to you. I want to see the world change to reflect differences in the environment: so if a city is besieged, I want prices to escalate accordingly. I'd like to observe seasons (though that's not vital) and a change in the available herbs and crops on the ground, roaming monsters, and supplies in the cities.

How about spawning points that move around so you don't encounter that monster in exactly the same spot time and time again.

I want it to be really hard to get higher ranks in a guild. Do you remember that guy in the Balmora mages guild you needed to do all that stuff only to achieve the rank of a whatever? I had this rank in no time, without much effort and without being a mage at all. To easy, you mentioned it already.......

EDIT:
Fable, I think you'll like that - if you haven't read the interview yet.

"A developer recently stated, on the forums, that sneaking was going to get some 'tender-loving-care'. Is there anything you would be willing to share with us about these changes at this time?

That part of the game is working great, really good stuff we've been spending more time on recently. Emil Pagliarulo, who worked on the Thief series, has been working on that, and it's much more realistic, using light and shadow and how you are moving. It's always been tricky for us because you have physical things affecting sneaking, and then abstract things, like your character's skills, so I think we're getting a better balance of how that plays out and giving the player feedback on if they can be seen, and NPCs searching for you and you can hear them say things like “I know you're here somewhere…” kind of stuff."

Well, if you don't like it.......I do. :D

EDIT2:

I really must ask all of you to read the latest 3 or 4...or 5 interviews (can be found on the tes-homepage). That's simply......unbelievable. And I insist on not believing it until I can play the game.....simply breathtaking. I...there's so much I'd like to quote now...just read them yourself! Read it!

Magick

Well maybe i´m the only one who thinks this way maybe not. Magick in morrowind sucked(pardon the language) bigtime, wasting your whole magicka reserve to bring down one golden saint when you are at level 30+ with maxed destruction skill seems a little like wasting your power when a swordsman can take it down in one hit with his daedric dai katana. Not to mention that the demon will reflect your nasty fireball back at you and kill you about 25% or more of the time you throw them at her..

Daggerfall is the best elder scrolls game so far, except for that i´m going to be a god in about five hours of gameplay thing(tavern mage anyone). Except for that magic could at least kill something other than an orc, and you can not even kill that in morrowind without at least expending so much energy that the next rat will kill you..

Not to mention hand to hand, okay for the knocking down part, that works, may be it could be a bit more damaging to the fatigue, but when you have knocked the enemy down you have to stand and beat them to death doing about 2-5 dmg a hit(even with 100+ in hand to hand), that seems a bit unrealistic, why not twist the neck out of place or something. Some hand to hand weapons would be appreciated, cestus, katar or something.. And healing potions could be a bit more uncommon. Magicka should regenerate too.

Other than that you have covered it all very well what we all hope should be in the next game.

I want a better arena. The arena in Morrowind was a joke. I want the arena to be more than just an area for several quests.

Allo, I’m newbie to the boards. I became interested in Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind a year ago, and when I heard that there was to be another Elder Scrolls game I was ecstatic. So a friend pointed me towards these boards to read the news and voice opinions. :)

I don’t know if this has been covered in other posts, but uh, I’d like for enchanted items to not look like they’ve been coated in mucus. And as has been expressed earlier, all types of armor to look cool. Banks to place money in would be awesome. But what would also be cool is if you could hold up banks. I dunno, just a thought. Perhaps that would be kind of unfair to someone who place all their money in a bank just to have some random NPC idiot steal it all. It would also be cool if you could own shops or inns or taverns, etc… areas of commerce, in general. :D

It would be cool, I think, to become a Lord, a Duke (or some form of royalty like a Baron) or something rather, and Lord either like a tyrant over subjects (i.e. high taxes, low rations :D ) or a worshiped leader (low taxes, double rations, etc.)

I hope to God that you’ll be able to own an estate of some sort, though, like in Morrowind. It would be absolutely amazing to have a castle or a tower, etc.

How about coins that weigh something, I think I have 140k gp in my pocket with one character.

The entire monetary system in E3 was so unbalanced, in my opinion. Two days into the game and it's not hard to rack up over 1,000,000 septims, making it a snap for a character to buy out an entire business. To find seven glass cuirasses and sell them off to the highest bidder is so simple now, and not really that fun. I would like to see money "come" and "go" a lot faster, so that now a player has to actually pay attention to what kind of cash they're carrying.

And I'm with Fable on the theiving thing: I always roleplay some form of a kleptomaniac, but most games neglect putting a skill to the art.

And, though I seriously doubt this aspect showing up, I'd love to see "non-mercenary" jobs offered in towns and cities. To become financially stable, you see. Had it been avaliable in E3 AC would have applied for a job in the House of Earthly Delights. ;)

I remember in one of the Kings Quest games, you could get a job sweeping out the stables. If you did it for long enough, your stats went up. Some jolly music played while you puffed and panted over the job! So yes, jobs would be fun.

I think they should bring back the restrictions from daggerfall for custom class creation... i.e. If you want a really powerfull mage, you have to take an inability to wear plate armour etc.

i HATE that. that is why i loved morrowind because you didnt have such a stupid restriction.

i have been playing Fable a lot lately and i think Morrowind can learn a lot from them. i like how the XP thing goes to where you can be a jack of all trades but not quit to the extent of Morrowind's "godlike" character builds. i liked how you have a reputation that NPCs and Gaurds react to (either love and praise you or fear and loathe you). I think the NPCs should have their own agenda and not just stand around all the time. and i agree with fable that the guilds should be more active, and if you join one group the others may not let you join i.e. join the theives guild so the fighters guild wont take you in. As a final statement, they should fix that stupid hand-to-hand combat system. i know i say it a lot but what happened to the uber karate kill three men i four seconds thing? man i want better martial arts.... :(

If you were in the Thieves Guild (and of course, I am not admitting anything!), wouldn't you try to keep it secret and not tell everyone? Perhaps you could be in the TG and the FG etc until you got caught doing something terrible - like stealing! Perhaps levels of punishment/ostracism according to the offence: people hate you more for murder than for petty theft?

There thats a good reason for a bank. I remember someone said that it would be stupid if some NPC stole all your money from the bank, but I disagree, it would be good because then you would have to get some money and I think it would be interesting, you could even get the robber and get your money back. Or if you owned a business or something (which I hope they put into Oblivion) you might have to sell it. Well thats it, have a safe and enjoyable day or night :D
It seems a great idea that NPCs could steal your stuff. It might be good to have a bank though so that careful types could stow their money away more securely than just having it in their pockets. What a target a bank would be for an aspiring thief!
You could rob banks in Daggerfall! Also you could get a loan and never pay them back! :p
