I am about to make an gnome thief/mage and have a question.
I know int and dex is important but what more to focus on? str, con or wis? which of them should be highest and most important?
Thief/mage
Actually if your a gnome, the multiclass is a thief/illusionist not thief/mage.
You'd want your constitution set to 16. Any higher and its worthless unless your a fighter. You want medium high wisdom for the lore bonus. Charisma and Strenght aren't a great deal for your class. A decent strength belt and ring of human influence will sort you out in those departments.
Try this:
Strength = 10
Dexterity = 19
Constitution = 16
Intelligence = 19
Wisdom = 10+
Charisma = 8
Of course if you have more skill points to allocate, add more to wisdom.

Cartoon Law III
Any body passing through solid matter will leave a perforation conforming to its perimeter. Also called the silhouette of passage, this phenomenon is the speciality of victims of directed-pressure explosions and of reckless cowards who are so eager to escape that they exit directly through the wall of a house, leaving a cookie-cutout-perfect hole. The threat of skunks or matrimony often catalyzes this reaction.

Oops I confused gnomes with halflings! Your right... i think you can get 18 not 19.

You don't need such a high Int. 17 should get you by for SoA, 18 for ToB (unless the level 10 spells require a 19).
You could even go with a lower Int (such as 12), but then you'd need to drink a lot of potions to gain new spells.
