Thiefs in SoA & ToB
I know this is asked a 1000 times before, but why are there so few thiefs in SoA, was hoping for a desent swashbuckler in ToB, but you only have Jan to keep as you're thief (imoen is gone, and yoshimo well (*slight spoler that every body knows*) betrays you.)
n TotSC i had thief to many if i wanted, and Jan realy anoys me.
Why can't nalia be a better thief, then would choose her.

I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.
what no thiefs?
there are 3 or 4, yoshi, jan, imoen, nalia
how many clerics, 3 ano, vic + aerie
rangers, 2
paladins, 1
druids, 2 jaheria + cernd, one multi the other a rather limited shapeshifter.
ftrs, 3-4 korgan, mazzy, jaheria, saravok
mages, 4
bard, 1 (+ blade is'nt a great party bard)
you have more variety at thief than most classes, w/ some having 0 representation, monk, barbarian, sorceror.
there is always the multi option or play a thief yourself. (my choice)
plus by making yoshimo a more palatable choice at thief, leads him to being in more parties...

Sarevok backstabbing...that is a scary thought.Originally posted by ]RiPPeR[:
imoen had 125% in find traps and 135% ion open locks with the ring of dangersense , ring of lockpicks and master harper amulet
you can also dual class sarevok to a thief since his dexterity is 17, if you dual him on level 18 he will still be able to reach level 35 as a thief

You could always use ShadowKeeper to take Nalia up a few levels as a thief. Or make her a pure thief altogether. It's not the same but still...

Koz-Ivan's right. Thieves are extremely well-represented in SOA/ToB. And when you consider the potions and rings available to aid thieving, that profession really has it made.
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Exactly. What good is making a nice sub-plot if everyone will pass it up?Originally posted by koz-ivan:

Sarevok makes on rockin thief. I mean I fragged balthazar with one backstab, and had little monk pieces fly all over the place.
He got a critical on a backstab (using the +4 katana) and did like 140 damage, then I also had the deathbringer assault go off, and that was another 200 damage. Gibs for everyone !

Well, when you think about it, @Laurelei, there were quite a few representatives of several professions. I seem to recall at least 4 mages and 3 clerics. But the game wasn't anywhere near as well-balanced, IMO, as BG2, nor was the party interaction that BG2 has. I think balance issues and all those party NPC subplots determined the smaller number of NPCs who could join you, this time around.Originally posted by Laurelei:
Hehe, it seemed like there were a jillion thieves in BG1, maybe that's why it seems like so few choices in BG2, comparatively speaking.

That's right. 75% of the NPCs were obviously less useful than the other 25%. While in BG2 you can argue about Cernd's monopoly on single-classed Druids, in BG1 there were some very, very redundant cases. Compare either Skie or Alorra to Imoen, for example.Originally posted by fable:
