What is your pet peeve? Rant away (Spam Lite)
Thanks DW, reminded me of one.
High maintenance people. Girls tend to be worse, but boys can be that way two. You do NOT need to spend 2 hours on hair, clothes and makeup to go out for pizza or grocery shopping. I just don't date girls who take more than a half-hour to get ready on a daily average. Wedding's and such are a different story, but really, it's just not necessary.
Parents who take no initiative to discipline their children when they are doing something destructive/harmful. I get in their faces for it. A friend told me last week she was visiting someone with a 3 year old son who got ahold of her sunglasses and proceeded to bend them into all sorts of shapes while the mother giggled at her son's antics. If I had seen that, that mother would have gotten a lecture after I was finished with the little boy. My glasses are FAR too expensive and necessary to have some toddler tear them apart.
Oh, and the smoking thing REALLY gets to me. It's a health issue for me because of my asthma. If someone smokes around me, I leave and if they get offended well tough.

And locke everything is possible as long as it includes me and a woman. But me being the man

Everything huh Fas? You'd seriously go that far?
I do the same thing with lying, if I catch you in a lie, I'm done. I'd rather have brutal truth than anything else.

I tend to agree with you Magrus. The really sad thing is, is the amount of friends that have been lost that way.

Just a couple for me!
- Closeminded peoples! (People who can't admit that there may be more then one valid view on an issue/who see their point of view as the only right one, blah blah blah, etc.)
- The sound of two carboard edges scraping on each other *shudders*
- Anyone who likes Kenny G

I sincerely wish we could re-consider this plan from a perspective that involved pants.
I have the same issue with hiding stuff. If you are going through a rough time tell me its happening and that you don't want to discuss it. That is fine with me. I however will not tolerate people hiding stuff from me. Be it you being sick or just in a bad mood or something much much much more serious. You hide it i give you the boot as well.
I have gotten rid of 2 friends like that. Ever since then all my friends are honest with me. They learnt it the way the other two got burnt. My friends half the time tell me they don't want to discuss it and i say well if you need to come to me when you need something. Works really well. Got two proven cases.
Lying and hiding things from me = the end. Even if you are family the rule applies to all.
Share your pet peeve/peeves and tell me how you got over them. If you did get over them that is. I have so many, my family thinks Im crazy. <peeves snipped> I'll stop here. Looks like I need to stay away from people.
Why? Your peeves are broad, general, and overall not unique or specific to you. Who isn't annoyed by people talking in the movies? Is there anyone who does enjoy blistering sunlight in their faces when they have not yet woken up and their eyes are still adjusted to the darkness?
If your relatives really do think you're crazy based on those peeves, you might want to get new relatives.

LOL - reminds me of that old saying, "You can pick your friends, you can pick your nose, but you can't pick your friends nose", which is almost like "You can pick your friends, but you can't pick your family", after which I get a mental image of a mass family-and-friend nosepicking orgy-like thing. *edited for literalist Ik*

Mine, it's:
- Guys who ask me if I have a significant other (because I have none)
- Guys who do little else but brag, no matter what the subject is. Just shut up and do your duties, for crying out loud!
- My dogs (note: we're talking two larger breed dogs here) having to constantly "use the dog's room" at night. If only I could train them the use the toilet.
- People obsessed with sports, ESPECIALLY baseball. Had 3 people in my American History class that covered the history of baseball as their final speech, along with quite a few others that did some band-wagon reports based on that class's lessons.
Warning to all on the this pet peeve's subject: Major league baseball in Connecticut is almost like during the Civil War: If you like the sport, you're either for the NY Yankees or the Boston Red Sox. Otherwise, you really shouldn't care for it, believe me!
- Panhandlers/beggars. One local city's reputation for heroin leads to one of these at least one every other month. Could be more, could be less.
- Hip-hop/rap music blasting out (DANGEROULSY HIGH bass) of some people's cars (99.99% men). Not arguing about the music; just the noise. I guess someone will eventually make a fortune on prescribing hearing aids or such.
- Women leading to feeling so much like they really like me, and then suddenly "I'm sorry, I'm already steady w/ someone." Need I say more?
- Customers at Wal-Mart who have to take my time with something silly. There are those who put back products in ALL the wrong places. That, and the ones who don't remember what day the month it is and bother me about the dates on the products in my departments. Finally, there are those who have to gripe about the crappy amount of service that they get when I'm not to blame (since I do quite a bit for my area, though I can't get to everything). UGH!
- My mother constantly assuming my attitude at home (especially when I get irritated, which is somewhat common) as my behavior outside of the house. She doesn't see me around other people, so who's she to judge?
- Bad grammar and sentence structure. Sure, not everyone has the time or inclination to write like a textbook, but... *sighs*
- Women that can't really see what a guy likes in a woman from more of a guy's perspective. No, I'm not saying that I'm only aiming at a woman who's bisexual, just more... man-minded, shall we say?

Oooooooh yeah. One thing I hate are cars with the altered mufflers that are extremely loud, along with loud motorcycles and the loud music. Anything that is that loud just irks me. It sorta feels like their invading my space....

I know some were general. Quite aware of that actually. And the people who talk during movies Im sure dont get annoyed since they're doing it. Thats a minus. As for the sun thing yeah I agree. You however, did not include them all. I shared very few, my family thinks Im weird because so many other things annoy me - I mean tons. Some things get to certain people - while they do not affect another person at all. I believe i asked folks to share their pet peeves- you dont have to if you dont want to.
Anyway I agree to a lot of them here. When I say these things annoy me, it means I will punch the person at the other end. I will grab whatever weapon I have and whack them with it. Dont worry I can control it, but some things annoy me so much I wish to harm the other person.
Magrus, Thomas and CM --- I agree and I also disagree. There are some things friends can not tell you. There are some things they can share, other things they cant share. I do understand why you would get rid of the person, however I think if you cared about them or loved them, you would give them the chance of explaining. Sometimes you need to know the full story in order to decide why you were not told everything. I am not saying it is alright to hide stuff, but simply that sometimes the other person is not at liberty to say. Again you would have to know everything to understand.

Well, if someone says "I can't talk about that" I can accept that. If they lie about it, I get angry. I think that's reasonable.

True. But some people will not leave you until they have it all out. The excuse that I dont wish to disuss it - rarely works. If there is something, a lot of people who are like you and Fas demand I tell. Then there are certain things that Im not sure, but perhaps people are not ready to tell? I mean maybe its a timing thing, then somebody goes off and lets it out and it ruins everything. But I think it is irresponsible to give somebody the boot without hearing their side of "why" they did it.
If you care enough or love enough - you fogive. I use the term "you" very generally here. Thats how I think. Depends of course on what it is about and how much it hurts.

It's a respect issue. If someone responds with "I can't discuss that" I let it go unless it's something special. Things that affect me, I have a right to know and I press people with that. Things that affect the another person's safety, or that of the one I'm asking, I press to know. Other than that, I give them the space they requested.

I agree. But I simply think that if the person is not telling you somethig or does not wish to - there is a reason for it. giving them the boot is not too wise- finding out that reason is the key.
ps its nice to get all these different views. And Ive met all you great bunch here. Thanks for being such great sports.

See, that's sorta where I've been stuck lately. I used to count people off real easy after lying or being somewhat deceitful about something. However, later on down the line, I'd remember it and think that it really wasn't that big of a deal or most likely, a misunderstanding. The problem with us guy's is that sometimes we've gotta be a little too macho and act like nothing is wrong, and then we just mark that person off in our black book and we end up losing a good friendship in the process. There've been a few times that I've done that and regretted it. Our friendship has never been the same since then. And then there are those people who have lied again and again and again and I've marked them off, only wishing that I really didn't have to but knowing that it was necessary.

I disagree completely with your assessment WR. I have 2 friends who never talk to me unless they want to. One of these guys the russian one (i mentioned him before) disappears month on end because he is having some sort of trouble. When he is like this: I don't bother him. I stay at his place. He wants company he doesn't want to be alone. So i move into his place. Done so 4 times in 5 months before i left. Me and him lived like a 30 second walk away. Same street different buildings.
So i would get home from work, change and show up uninvited with dinner or he would cook or what not. I would leave at 3 or 4 in the morning or sleep at his place. All we did was BS and play video games. He after a day or two would be ready to talk to me. We worked out this system for 5 years. It worked well. He would tell me when he felt like it till then i was his friend and didn't bother him. Still works even though i am in NYC.
Others have realised this as well. Its very simple. It is an issue of respect. We will continue this on a much more personal level via e-mails.
