What is your'e favorite start off class on KoToR? Mine is the scout, for Numerous reasons.

Scout is probably my favorite, simply because of uncanny dodge, the implant freebies, and the large amount of skills you get. Soldier is simply too physical heavy, and skill light, which isn't terribly important that early in the game. Scoundral's Luck and Sneak Attack might make the Scoundral class a strong choice as well, if the latter ability was successfully employed by the player.

I'd go for Scout so that you can get the Repair skill as a Class Skill.
Avoiding spoilers, I'll just say that there's a particular use for Repair for your PC that involves one of the party members you acquire. Your PC must have a decent Repair (other party members having it won't help).
For the PC version (PC = personal computer, not player character) of the game, you'll be able to buy headgear that gives +7 to Repair, Computer Use, Security and Demolitions at Yavin Station so that'll slightly mitigate the number of skill points you need spend on Repair to finish that NPC party-member sidequest.
Also, a Scout might receive fewer feats overall, but he gains the three implant feats free... and you should get Level 3 Implants.
A Soldier gets the three Armor Proficiency feats free, but once you're a Jedi you probably won't want to wear armor due to the Force power limitations.. which means the armor proficiencies are wasted although you get more feats overall.
All three base classes are okay, but I'd go for Scout.

I go for Scoundrel simply because i prefer playing as that 'sort of person'. Furthermore I like the skills. When you become a jedi, you'll be at least an OK fighter, and then you can bring the strong fighters along, otherwise you will have to bring Mission. I also like the fact that your avatar is very short if you are a scoundrel - I don't know why.
I like scout just because Its an all around good class, your feats and skill are balanced out mostly and you get the implant skill automaticly. With the other two I was missing out on eather feats or skills but with the Scout I get both, maybe not as much but still

I like the Soldier/Consular combo. As a level 20 Jedi Consular i had Like 400 VP, and 300 FP.

Soldier for light side, the light side buffs make it easier to hack and slash.
Scoundrel for dark side, the powers here are better for sitting back and casting. Also, the sneak attack is nice after stunning a target and the scoundrels Luck is also apreciated for someone who wants to take less damage and do less combat.
I like the Soldier/Consular combo. You had to of gotten the implant with +4 constitution and the Toughness feature.
calm down....dont get all worked up about it. No need for insults.
BryBry, I don't think he was saying you're personally dumb, but that the combination profession you suggested wasn't able to use powers very effectively. Powers are equated in KotoR with magic in many other RPGs, which are fueled by Intelligence.
DZ, is this a fairly accurate statement of what you meant?

To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Yes, BryBry, I was calling the character dumb, as fable explained.

Never really mattered to me since I always finish Taris at level 2 so I can get as many Force powers as possible, but I tend to be a scoundrel just because I like the idea of being a smuggler (like Han Solo! Yay!). I must say that I kind of wish my scoundrel didn't have to start off wearing that stupid looking red jacket though...

I voted for Scout.
The chance to put points into repair skill early on and the bonus implant and flurry feats make this my preferred starting class, especially when not saving levels.
