2 things:

1) bodhi bodhi bodhi! what a cruel world it is that they would put bodhi in the game and not allow the option to have her join the character and do the romance stuff.

2) why not two romances? can you set that up with shadowkeeper? I'm thinking something along the lines of an official romance with a woman in my party, and another one on the side with someone waiting for me in my stronghold when I visit.

ideal situation: bodhi romance with bodhi in party, concubine hanging out in graveyard.

Fable, you could be a gnomish mage, ranger or a halfling barbarian, among other possibilities. I think you would need to go a bit further than romances to take the exotic out of this.
Yeah, but my point is that the romance only adds to the exoticism. Sure, you could just have a romance with the mage next door, good old Imoen (assuming she wasn't your half-sister, which she is), but it's so much stranger to add in the element featuring a dark elf cleric who can't escape her culture; or a tortured, once-winged elf cleric/mage; or a self-assured, smart-mouthed druid/fighter who suddenly shows a core of vulnerability. :)

Speaking strictly from a normal, everyday life standpoint, the "mage next door" would be a far probable romance than the other three. Not only because the fact she is the mage next door, but also given the common issues both the protaganist and her face - anxiety tends to draw people sharing it closer together.

The only real "problem" is the whole sense that she is your "sister" - a designation given to her by Gorion and co. We all know Bhaal had a very interesting lifestyle.

*chuckle*

Perhaps "romance" is the wrong term, but the potential relationship between Imoen and the protaganist would be a lot closer than it appears to be.

This is why the ending for Imoen didn't sit well with me, after everything that had happened, she just struck out on her own and nothing was said about your crossing of paths?

"i am way off the topic."

Off topic? We're talking art in the Louvre and you just ran in and yelled at us because the Mets lost their season opener ;)

Well, if I can try to summarize: I don't mind a person, er, character who is 'damaged goods', I just want someone likeable. None of the romance options come across as anyone you'd want to spend a lot of time with - no matter what their issues. Aerie comes close, but it's hard to look at her as an equal. She's so pathetic. The rest of the options, including Anomen, are people you debate killing - not dating!

Typical Aerie conversation:
Aerie: "My wings have been clipped...oh, I wish you could understand how it feels to be bound to the ground, chained and weighted like a miserable prisoner of earth..."
You: "If you're going to whine, do it somewhere else."
Aerie: "I-I'm sorry, <CHARNAME>...I didn't mean to bother you. I'll talk to somebody else, instead."

Typical Jaheira conversation:
Jaheira: "Blast, our progress is not as it could be, I am sure. Ah, perhaps it is just me. I grow tired of these pursuits. My life was not always such."
You: "And I should care for what reason, exactly? Save your musings for your memoirs."
Jaheira: "Be assured I will not pester you again. Silence will be your companion. Enjoy her."

Typical Viconia conversation:
Viconia: "I have been thinking about how you have refused to take up your destiny as the son of Bhaal... You have no impetus to carve an empire, and you are certainly no Lord of Murder. I have decided you are weak and cowardly, not fit for the godsblood flowing within you."
You: "If you're going to spout filth every time you open your mouth, just keep it shut. I tire of you."
Viconia: "As you wish! You shall hear no more from me! Oloth plynn dos!!"

Typical normal conversation:
Girlfriend: "Hey, sleep well?"
You: "Sure. Shall we go for a walk and kill some Goblins or something?"
Girlfriend: "OK."

They could have made some really good romance quests out of a few things in SOA, as well as add some new NPCs to join your party. Here are my ideas:

Good Male PC: When liberating the slaves in the Copper Coronet, you will find that one of the whores is a female NPC who will fight with you and then join your party. Then the romance conversations will start.

Evil Male PC: Help Lady Lillith Luraxxol kill Lord Logan in Trademeet and frame the Alibakkars for the murder, she'll then join your party (I imagine she'd be a mage).

Good Female PC: When overhearing Garrick trying to woo the she-paladin in front of the Noble Order of the Most Radiant Heart building, Garrick will see your female PC and want her instead (he'll offer to join your party).

Evil Female PC: If you decided to work for Firkraag and get the deed for him, Conster will stop you after he kills Garren's child. He'll offer to enchant the deed with a curse if you bring it to him first. The curse will kill Firkraag when you give it to him, allowing Conster to take the treasure. Then he'll offer to join your party, and the dialogues will begin shortly after.

There you go, four new possible NPCs for romances, and one of them is from BG1. I hope all you guys who know how to program these romances into the game are taking this into consideration. ;)

Major Beefs with .....

Aerie- Looks like an emaciated britney spears. No emotional intelligence at all. No initiative.

Jaheira- Outside the romances she treats you like a retarded nephew.

Vicky- She reminds me of those blue freaks that the brain-dead suits at Intel hired. Plus, I think I see a mustache forming.

Probable, yes. Boring as hell, most assuredly. :D After all, how do most NPCs end up in these games? Either as merchants, guards, or laborers. That's the "norm" for this artificial universe. So why do anything out of the ordinary? Stay at home, open a nice shop of mage goods, marry Imoen and raise little magelettes. ;)

No initiative... another good point. Compare the ladies' dialogues to Anomen's. Who has to take initiative in every case? The male... Sure, Viconia flirts more openly than the other girls, but more out of curiosity than an attempt to deepen the relationship.

This is particularly strange considering that in all four cases, it's the romance interest that actually starts up all conversations. It generally goes like:

Romance interest: "Tell me about yourself."
You: "I grew up in Candlekeep."
Romance interest: "You had it easy. I, on the other hand..."

How realistic is a relationship that depends on one side to start 100% of conversation, and on the other to take off on that? ;)

hehehe.
i dont know what to say, one part wants to say "go **** urself *******s, this is a game, a good one, if u dont like it then get the hell out of here and burn it". 2nd one on the other hand saz "Hahaha, yeah those sluts, dumb as hell and i get tired of thir *****ing and whining and of there problems.
So i guess the average is "U guys make me puke, yeah they are pain in the ass but its a game and its hard to make a good game specially huge game without bugs. i love this game and those sluts but u just ruin the whole thing.

"Extraordinary men dream of ordinary life."
- Cancerman, X-Files

A fitting quote.

"Boring as hell, most assuredly."

Eh? It all starts out when you two are imprisoned in Irenicus' dungeon, you make the mad escape, only to have her snatched away by the Cowled Wizards.

After much ado, you're finally reunited, only to find it was a well laid trap, and both you and Imoen have your divine souls yanked out, sending you through he11 and back trying to recover them.

And that's just a two-bit summary of SoA ;)

Far from a normal, boring life.

Let's face it, Aerie, Jahiera and Vic don't know what its like having their divine soul ripped out from them. Imoen does.

Even Imoen "longs for the ordinary life" of Candlekeep, and quite frankly, after running all over hell and creation sorting out that whole prophecy thing, I'd be looking to take a nice calm vacation after the whole Bhaal thing was put to rest ;)

"After all, how do most NPCs end up in these games? Either as merchants, guards, or laborers. That's the "norm" for this artificial universe. So why do anything out of the ordinary?"

Perhaps, but there's also the large chunk of ordinary people who become failed "heros" - you know, someone had to make those corpses in all those places you trek through.

Given the number of people willing to travel with you, I don't think that being an adventurer is such a rare thing. Its not a common thing, I'll give you that much, but given the hotspots for people of that sort to gather (Coppor Coronet), I don't think it is horrifically rare.

"Stay at home, open a nice shop of mage goods, marry Imoen and raise little magelettes."

Sure, if it wasn't for Irenicus or the Bhaal-essence saga, of course without either maybe Imoen would strike out on her own or you without her.

As I said, there are a number of things that would've made that relationship a bit more "real" so to speak. The romance might be a stretch (only non-humans maybe?), but there's a lot that seemed "missing" in my books. The whole bit about Imoen running a thieves' guild was right on the mark tho - very "Imoen-ish".

Yes, that's another thing I hate. Jaheira is the only one that seems to care, you're a man without a soul for most of the game, and she says "oh hey, looks like you're missing a soul, anyways back to MY problem..." They're all so gddamned self-absorbed ! They don't seem to realize that you have the blood of a god of murder in your veins !

Oloth Plynn Dos

Will Viconia continue the romance after uttering this curse (of course I told the wench to put a lid on it, had the option been available I'd have glady bent her over the knee and dished out a firm sound spanking....since that seems to be what she was really after)?

Yet, way back in the far reaches of my dark soul,I truly have the worst/best desires for Bhodi.
Yeah, me too. I am starting a Necromancer in BG1 and was wondering if there were any mods for wooing Bodhi. People want a romance with Imoen. Whats worse, necrophilia or incest:laugh:???
