I loved this game but it is divided on those who like it and those who hate it. Unfortunately with the latter being in the majority. The storyline kept me going and for that I give credit to D.W. Bradley who wrote the game and also was the writer for the last few games for the Wizadry series.

You will have to download Virtual Dub or Ace Mega Codec to fix some graphic problems when you travel between towns. I would highly recommend visiting the Ironworks RPG Gaming Site and getting with the forum board there. As there are a lot of old loyal players who check that site on a regular basis and can provide you any help you may be stuck with.

The game is pretty open for you to travel as you like. I found some areas at the beginning harder than others. But it allows you to escape and go to easier areas until you are stronger to come back to the harder areas. The town is two-dimensional and while that takes away from the game graphic wise it makes it easy to visit the areas you need to and get back in the game faster. You will also be able later to cast teleport set and mark spells to travel back and forth. I liked this idea as it allows you to buy, sell, and heal so that you can get back to the game play.

I ordered Wizard&Warriors on Ebay about 3 years ago, not knowing that it was not compatible with Windows XP. I tried it on my last pc which had XP, and it had no such luck running that darn thing. Three years later on my new PC (which also has Windows XP, SP2), I got it to run...but it would crash a lot. So I gave up on it after playing it for about 15hours. Way too many crashes.

I also didn't like how each time when you entered the guilds, and the shopkeeper/priest/whatever had to run-on from their mouths about me not finishing their quests. Not at all a good function in the game.

I still see it has the same earlier money-making scheme as Wizardry 1, 2, 3 had. Which is to keep on creating new characters, steal their 200gp and delete them. That's how I got started in W&W as to be able to affard guild costs and equipment.

Even without the bugs, W&W still seems to lack in a LOT of AREA's. Good concepts, poooooor executions/functions. Game had potential, too bad Heuristic Park never made Official Patches to correct a lot of nerve racking bad-codes/programmings/interfaces.
