... Or just as long as Spam is tolerated in SYM.
This is the point and that's why I suggested, if possible of course, a title related to the location of posts.
Spam could be tolerate in a forum like SYM (for instance a Spam Your Mind instead of Speak Your Mind) and not tolerate elsewhere ! Then the posts in Spam Your Mind could be not counted !
Anyway I haven't voted in this poll cause i'd like to have a new title but i want to earn it !![Smile :)](./images/smilies/)

@TonyMontana1638, & The Balance. Does this mean you are going to join my campaign to outlaw the filthy pestilence that is 's'-word from SYM? The " 's'-word your mind" forum idea is good the name could do with some work. What about " 's'-word sewer ", "drivel central", "drooling inanity", "that slightly moist and distinctly smelly bit of carpet under the stairs"...
And if they post 's'-word here what about a banning for a first offence? Sounds fair to me.
*Jumps for Joy* - Curdis !
For the terminally hard of thinking, above you see a simple example of individuality being expresed without the need for any special mods (etc.), without a cost to other members in terms of downloads or scrollage. Guess what? It isn't even hard to do.

You campaign against spam? Then what you do? Post Nonsense on threads every now and then? heh
Curdis, I think spam is needed. Different, custom titles, not. So, let the "s word" and the "k word" (I remember you hated Katanas on BG) go, and let the idea of custom titles go too.
I don't think it is right to judge on first impression, but I will say that I pay attention to a person's user name, signature, location etc.
Clearly, a person's posts are the most important thing, and that is what will catch my interest first, but once my curiosity is aroused I do look at the other stuff. I think that those choices can reveal quite a lot about somebody....
For example, such things can show an interest in literature or philosophy..
If a person has all kinds of numbers or Leet in their user name, I will instantly dismiss them. If their signature or location is badly spelled I tend to lose interest.. And, if they have a name along the lines of "Bad Boy Gamer," I won't even read their posts.
Obviously, you need to go beyond the superficial, but I do think that the way somebody chooses to present themselves can say a great deal.
Whats wrong with numbers or do you mean like 3s for Es?

"Member" is the default title, "Exalted Member" comes after you reach fifty posts, "Moderator" if you sign up to be a moderator and the rest come from having bought a subscription to the site in its early years, an option no longer available. Welcome to SYM by the way! Please come by and chat as you please! ![Big Grin :D](./images/smilies/)
When you post, the things you say decide whether or not you are as unique as you like to think you are.
I won't recognize you by your title or signature, but, like most people here, by your avatar and name. It is up to the reader to determine what kind of person you are.
Many -if not all- signatures can be interpreted in a multitude of ways and are very often not telling much about the person. By reading one's posts, you get an impression of what the person is like and you might be able to interpret his/her signature in a certain way. At the same time, you attach the impressions you have to his/her name/avatar and you shape a virtual personality for that member, which is important in communication, because it enables you to expect certain things the person says and you get a better and faster understanding of the thoughts of the person.
So any uniqueness, diversity and meaning comes from the (variable) content of the posts and those values are connected to the steady factor: the shell.
If your title is very unique but your posts are dull, you're just misleading me. If your title is dull and your posts are unique, you gain credibility and some form of 'respect', whatever that might yield, but it's the best you can do here in SYM, because you won't get money for posting.
If you want diversity in your shell, there's enough customizables in the form of a signature, ava and location. Mustn't it end somewhere?
Consider that some people hae been here much longer than others, those who hae not been here as long, such as myself, are disadantaged if all they hae to go on is a post, when others already hae a great feel of what the person is like.
Titles add another thing to help you get an idea of what someone is like.

I know this was posted a long time ago but if they did that it would greatly encourage post farming. Maybe a small donation to the site?
Though I saw the argument that the titles separate Moderators from Members, so both are clearly visible...I'd have to agree with that one. If there were lots of unique titles, it'd be harder to spot the difference.
Well, in several other forums, Moderators and other staff have completely seperate titles under their user titles, that are often in a fancy font, and colour. This makes 'em alot easier to spot.![Wink ;)](./images/smilies/)

Example - Navy custom user name with a similar sized moderator tag under their names. However, I doubt this is supported by vBulletin. There wasn't a hack a few months ago when I last checked.
