Almost every chest in the game is random. If you really want a heavy pole, then do some saving and loading when you reach a weapon chest, and try until you get something you want. I'm not sure where you can get the Soul Harvester.

Well if thats the case its just lame.. Never saw a penalty either (earlier in the game). Nor did I see any difference based on a magical defense to bonus the shield was supposed to provide. Trinkets, rings, and armor with such bonuses DID make a difference though. (..did some testing on this.)
I finished the game (multiple crashes with lots of video going "off" in the tougher battle sequences). There were no chests providing the soul harvester.. it may not have found its way into the game functionally for CE, OR chest "drops" may be dependent on character structure (be it class and/or skill level), OR you may actually have the opportunity for better "drops" via the Fool Hearldry.
I spent several hours with the weapon chest in the maze.. For my character there were several different weapons, some showing up more often than others, but none that were above level 7-8 that I can recall. Additionally, most of the time it would appear that I received 2 weapons from that chest, one level 7 and one level 5. I ended up taking the no-dachai of winter (and some other junk) and luckily had enough spare adv. points to make do with only a -1 penalty for the hag fight (and no penalty thereafter). It was nice - but frankly the pole (heavy and light) interaction and animation is better (..more like using a real weapon).
I tried using the editor program listed in the "sticky" for just the soul harvester, but to no avail. Going through the thread I found the reason why - for some reason it doesn't like saves near the end of the game.
I would recommend to anyone that IF they want a specific weapon/item that doesn't appear to be "known" (or if "known", but unobtainable through their chosen build path), that they should place the item in the character save right at the beginning of a new game using the editor - and NOT use it.. perhaps until after surviving a successful trip through the Tomb of Souls (minus the fiend). In fact I would recommend selling that item(s) upon leaving the sewers/theater to the mage there in Fargrove (..who happens to be near the moon bridge), and not buying it back until at least obtaining access to the moon bridges. Proceeds should be strictly used for minotaur leveling in Skulldoon, and sales from their (minotaur) weapons should be donated away.
Just a suggestion, but one based on a semi-disconcerting experience.
