Stuck in Shadow Ruins area..

Post by Scottg »

I've followed the recommendation here for entrance #6 on navigating the shadow realm searching for another chest with a shadow stone:

http://www.gamebanshee.com/dungeonlords ... esarea.php

going east, east, east - puts me back to the athena room and there is no chest in the room (..not that I'd expect one to be there ;) ).

so then east, east allows me 2 choices: the arched entrance to the athena room, OR another normal teleport pad. IF I take that normal teleport pad I end up at the same location for #5's chest (..which of course is already opened).

Any suggestions? :o

Note that I've tried all manner of combinations and come up blank. I really stuck here!

Help! (please)

I've also tried going back to a different save and still have the same problem.

:( :( :(

Well, something's wrong here. You shouldn't be able to get to #5's chest by going through the portal at #6. They take you to completely different areas (that, of course, look the same). So you're probably going through the wrong portal, or you've already looted #6's chest.

No.. going through #6. I didn't even have #6 visible until #5 was finished and I killed the athena.

I'll try #5 again though. :(

I went back to an even earlier saved game (near the athena blockers) and that seemed to work! (..the last two were saved in the shadow realm, maybe that had something to do with it?)

Mon Graci! I guess persistence pays..

While mildly on the topic of bugs..

Do shields work in your games? I get neither a bonus to AC nor (it appears) any magical bonus (should the particular shield have one). This is my first character through, but its been that way for me for the whole game - which for a heavy shield capable character is more than a little disappointing.

I'm also getting no bonus on speed past 272 (or 276 or there abouts). My character is VERY fast naturally and basically I get about 4 points from any speed enhancing item. It was a rather unpleasant shock to find that the Cerebus band I fished for in the Drake Chest area wasn't providing any additional boost to speed beyond the amount the blade ring was providing.

And on a completely un-related matter..

I'm assuming the best weapons in the game are found in one of the chests in the "maze" I haven't been to yet. (..assuming of course loading and re-loading to finally get the weapon I want.) Is this correct? I'm asking because the character is particularly set for heavy poles and would dearly love to "employ" the use of the Soul Harvester. :mischief:

I think you only get shield bonuses when you actually block.

Almost every chest in the game is random. If you really want a heavy pole, then do some saving and loading when you reach a weapon chest, and try until you get something you want. I'm not sure where you can get the Soul Harvester.

Well if thats the case its just lame.. Never saw a penalty either (earlier in the game). Nor did I see any difference based on a magical defense to bonus the shield was supposed to provide. Trinkets, rings, and armor with such bonuses DID make a difference though. (..did some testing on this.)

I finished the game (multiple crashes with lots of video going "off" in the tougher battle sequences). There were no chests providing the soul harvester.. it may not have found its way into the game functionally for CE, OR chest "drops" may be dependent on character structure (be it class and/or skill level), OR you may actually have the opportunity for better "drops" via the Fool Hearldry.

I spent several hours with the weapon chest in the maze.. For my character there were several different weapons, some showing up more often than others, but none that were above level 7-8 that I can recall. Additionally, most of the time it would appear that I received 2 weapons from that chest, one level 7 and one level 5. I ended up taking the no-dachai of winter (and some other junk) and luckily had enough spare adv. points to make do with only a -1 penalty for the hag fight (and no penalty thereafter). It was nice - but frankly the pole (heavy and light) interaction and animation is better (..more like using a real weapon).

I tried using the editor program listed in the "sticky" for just the soul harvester, but to no avail. Going through the thread I found the reason why - for some reason it doesn't like saves near the end of the game.

I would recommend to anyone that IF they want a specific weapon/item that doesn't appear to be "known" (or if "known", but unobtainable through their chosen build path), that they should place the item in the character save right at the beginning of a new game using the editor - and NOT use it.. perhaps until after surviving a successful trip through the Tomb of Souls (minus the fiend). In fact I would recommend selling that item(s) upon leaving the sewers/theater to the mage there in Fargrove (..who happens to be near the moon bridge), and not buying it back until at least obtaining access to the moon bridges. Proceeds should be strictly used for minotaur leveling in Skulldoon, and sales from their (minotaur) weapons should be donated away.

Just a suggestion, but one based on a semi-disconcerting experience.

Note I did find the Bladerelic of Night in the Maze Chest.. and thats level 9. But that was the only high level item, and it was as frequent as most other items.

I'm about to post a "spoiler" thread on my weapons drops experience..
