Have no idea what it represents, but I only noticed it after I started playing with headphones....I usually play with speakers and keep them fairly low, but recently had some company in the house and decided to play with headsets on to cut down on the volume level.....
That's when I noticed that the footsteps seemed louder than usual and started hearing the "clink", the first thing I did, was check inventory to see if I dropped anything, but everything was still there...IMO, it must just be some ambient sound of traveling, maybe.

Sometimes when you use enchanted items your inventory shifts and makes that sound.Magelord648 wrote:I get that sometimes. Usually when I change cells. There are no clinking armour sound effects.

My experience mirrors that mentioned above: whenever an enchanted weapon or armor spell wears off my character, and I previously had another weapon drawn or piece of metallic armor worn in that same place, there's a metallic sound. It represents your character "automatically" replacing what has been removed.
