Tung's Computer

Post by Lukeatus »

How do you access Bertram Tung's computer?
I've heard rumors that you can. Is this a Nossie-only part of the game? Because this is really the one clan I can't bring myself to play with. I mean, I've played a Malkavian girl (having access to obfuscate) even and it was fun. But the sewers are simply a part of the game I dislike, the Warrens mission I always can't wait to get it over with.

I mean seriously. A Ventrue swimming in the sewers? A bit degrading. When I first played I played a Ventrue and couldn't believe it. This is the problem with the game - certain parts your clan wouldn't allow to do certain missions but you do anyway for the XP. Like a Toreador slashing paitings for Jeanette? Need the XP! But a Torie shouldn't be allowed to do it.

Hmm back to the main topic, anyone know how to access Tung's computer?

As far as I know, there is no way to interact with Bertram's computer in game. However, there is a file in the hackedterminals folder for his computer. It's possible it was originally meant to be accessible but was cut from the game.

Here are the contents of the file:
TerminalDefinition
{
"screen saver" "Go away!" // Bounces around on the screen when the terminal is not being used.
"brackets" "" // these surround the command prompt (2 characters)

"email_password" "tung" // the user must type this to access email from this terminal
"email_username" "btung"

LogonScreen // displayed when the user first logs on
{
// Any number of lines are acceptable
"line0" "Vindows, XP"
"line1" "I've come to vipe your vindows"
}

// you can have up to 5 subdirs per terminal
// and up to 6 functions per sub dir
// there are 8 total outputs per terminal, (0...7)
// talk to Brock if you'd like this number increased.

SubDir
{
"name" "Notes" // This is what is displayed as the name of this menu, and what the player must type to enter the menu (128 characters)
"password" "obfuscate" // password required to run commands in this menu (16 characters)
"description" "Notes on Santa Monica" // This is printed each time the user enters this menu (128 characters)

Function
{
"name" "Asylum" // this is what the player must type in to trigger this function. (16 characters)
"description" "Info on the Asylum" // this is a description of this function (128 characters)
"runtext" "Run by vampric sisters. I like Jeanette better than Therese."
// this text is printed when the player triggers this function. (128 characters)
}

Function
{
"name" "Gallery Noir"
"description" "How to get in"
"runtext" "There is a back entrance in the alley. Weak pipes between parking structure and alley could be broken off."
}
}

Email
{
"subject" "Runaway!"
"sender" "Jeanette"
"body" "Bertie, the stick-in-the-mud is mad. You better lie low for awhile...."
}

}
And a translation:

He's a got a section called Notes with password "obfuscate," where he describes the Asylum and Gallery Noir. His e-mail password is "Tung" and he's got a letter from Jeanette warning him about Therese.
".... for I had seen the Human face of the Vampires, and now I beheld the monstrousness of these Men..."

Ah, I never noticed that his computer is inaccessible. Maybe I can restore it for the next unofficial patch but then why would he allow you to hack into it while he is around?

He wouldn't...just like Therese and Jeanette won't when they can see you on their terminal. I'm sure there was some storyline there that was abandoned early on.

Yes, obviously you were to be allowed inside the tank before Bertram is there. As the infos of the terminal don't make much sense after you met him anyway I will leave it out. I noticed there are other unused terminal files as well, one for Kilpatrick and two for Isaac, probably left over from the E3 demo...
