Melee in Tactics

Post by GawainBS »

Hello

How viable is a melee main-character in Tactics? What stats/skills/perks/traits and equipment would you guys recommend?

Thanks in advance!

Are you playing turn -mode, or real time? And if turn mode, which one?

For stats, I would suggest Maxed STR and Agility. Charisma isn't that important, so you could just reduce it to minimum.

For skills, Melee (of course :p ) and probably Sneak. I would choose sneak because it makes it a lot easier to get near the enemy to have the first hit.

For perks, I would recommend anything that imrpoves your movement, melee damage.

I will get better answer when I get home so I can have better access to info I have there...

I'm playing the "normal" Turnbased mode, the one that you use in every Fallout game. :-)

Then its standard melee fallout character
Tag unarmed/melee (your preference, I like unarmed best)
Tag sneak
Tag favorite skill

High Endurance is really important for this character I'd go with:

Gifted
Small Frame (if I don't take fast shot, I always take this in tactics as carry weight has almost no meaning)

S 8
P 4
E 10
C 2
I 8
A 10
L 6

Perks:
Bonus move, totally want in turn based, with 2 of this you'll bounce between baddies faster than ever and kill them with chops to the eyes.
Bonus HtH attacks=duh
HtH evade=duh
Better Critcals
Slayer
Everything else you can take how you want it, but those you barely have the option NOT to take to create an effective HTH character in tactics.

Just curious... Would a LK 6 really be necessary? Slayer upgrades every hit to a critical hit in HtH...

You still need to make a luck roll and luck 6 is needed for some of the perks i.e. better criticals.

Slayer simply upgrades all of your rolls to criticals. I do agree that Better Criticals is nice. Besides, I think that LK also determines the quality of your Critical. Does anybody has the "Critical Hit Table"?

skills

I think meele weapons is not so good. Better than this are small guns and big guns.Small guns are the best in the begining of game, big in the end

I did go with Small Guns in the end, and with Energy Weapons. I find Big Guns too hard too use safely. (i.e. not shooting your squadmates.) I have too Big Gun specialists and 4 Energy Weapons specialists.
