Help me!
I was innocently wandering around from Balmora (is this how it is spelt?) to Seyda Neen when i saw a thing that looks like a pterodactyll flying overhead. I decided to risk running underneath it but it attacked me. I carried on running, in the vain hope that it would leave me, but it was joined by another one! I took shelter in some random ancestral tomb, where the screen went red, but when i exited they attacked me again. I cannot kill them as I have no ranged equipment and my fire bite spell doesn't seem to work on them. I am worried that they will follow me all over Vvardenfell if I don't kill them, which I can't. SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME!
Here is some info about my character if it helps:
-i play on pc
-i am level 1
-i have bonemold armour
-i have a nordic claymore
-i have no ranged equipment
-i only have 1 destructive spell-fire bite
-my other spells are healing ones
-i am running out of health potions---FAST!
Any help would be greatly apprieciated.
Thanks

They're called Cliff Racers, a regular pain in the derriere. If you're playing on a PC you can either use the console or the Construction Set to overcome the problem, but if on the X-Box you've got to find a way to deal with them.
Do you have Almsivi or Divine Intervention, either spell or scroll? If so use one to get to safety.

You shouldn't need ranged weapons to take out cliff racers. They will lower down to striking range when they attack you. Sometimes they may get hung up out of range if you are close to large rocks or something like that, but if that's the case, just move a little and it should drop. Pretty much, if it's able to hit you, then it's in range for you to use a sword on. It might seem like it's out of range if your sword skill is low because you may miss a few times, but you can kill cliff racers with melee weapons.

Just to add to the replies a little more info...
There are also mods, that will alter the creatures in the game, so that only blighted creatures attack....there are also specific ones geared toward the cliff racers....you can make them passive and there's even one to make them more aggressive...

You shouldn't be seeing cliff racers at all when you are level 1. They are leveled creatures, and should only show up when you hit level 4. So something's wrong here- are you sure you're level 1?

Are you certain of that?Sparrow wrote:You shouldn't be seeing cliff racers at all when you are level 1. They are leveled creatures, and should only show up when you hit level 4. So something's wrong here- are you sure you're level 1?
I know that with at least a couple of characters I've been dive bombed by the damn things practically right off the boat.
Though... given all of the mods I use when I install the game, I suppose it's possible that something has altered the scripting. Indeed, quite probable actually...
Now I'm curious though.

I'm sure that's the way it has always been for me, and that's how it's supposed to be, according to the documentation I have (Morrowind Prophecies Official Guide Book).
I know I will never see a cliff racer at level 1, but I've always played the plain vanilla Morrowind, with no mods (even though I've put in a few hundred hours with this thing, over the years).
A cliff racer is level 4, a rat is level 2, and a mudcrab is level 1.

Levelled lists can be complicated. Also Bethesda did make a few errors playing Morrowind. The amount of floaters, bleeders, caspers etc make me grateful that it can be all be fixed with mods.

You can indeed encounter Cliff Racers at first level in vanilla Morrowind, but only if you're close to a shore line. Three levelled lists, ex_shore_all_lev-2, ex_shore_cliffracer_lev+0 and ex_shore_cliffracer_lev-2, all feature Cliff Racers and all available at level one.
