Mods you would like to see

Post by dragon wench »

I really wish I were technically inclined because were that the case I have a number of different mod ideas I'd just love to try out. However.. given that I am hopeless with such things... I can only dream.
I also figured that I'm probably not the only one in this situation. :o :D

So assuming you had modding abilities, or assuming that you do but don't have much time, what mods would you create for BG2?

As has often been expressed in these forums, there isn't really anything out there that has ever come close to BG2 in terms of combining depth, complexity, story, NPC interaction and tactical challenge (though even these aspects have already been improved upon by various mods).
I think this question has relevance (and hopefully it hasn't already been asked -- too broad for using the Search engine) because in the years since BG2 was released no game, excepting PS:T, has been able to offer a similar experience.

I have a number of ideas but for now I'll mention...

While there have been flirt packs released for "romance interests" you can't initiate dialogue with regular in-game NPCs... Now that would be a *massive* undertaking, but it is one things I'd certainly pursue if I had the ability.
Likely more ideas later.

Heh.... you are all lucky I can't mod. I would create a mod where Neeber and Noober could follow you off screen and into other parts of the map, lol. I would also give them voices like Peter from Family Guy.

Seriously though, I would like to see a mod enabling you to reform the original cast from BGI (Dynaheir/Kahlid and the rest) so you could keep your story consistent.

You should try the "Romantic Encounters" mod... Noober returns and hits on a female PC in Delosar's Inn..
It's a really funny episode.

Yes, I can certainly see how that would appeal. Though, I suppose that you'd really have to change Minsc's and, especially, Jaheira's stories... so that would be challenging, especially if you wanted to make it seem believable.

In terms of new mods, I would also like to expand some of the stronghold quests, that, to the best of my knowledge have not yet been touched. For example, the Ranger Stronghold, in part because the reward for the final quest is so overpowered, and can be easily obtained at fairly early levels.

Maybe an army of invading army of high level Yuan-ti from the Jungle of Chult? Still working out the story details though..
Of course, that would work equally well, if not better, for the Druid Grove.

I'd like NPC spellcasters to be able to get a familiar. It's just more "true" to AD&D.

I'd vote for a mod that adds food and need for it to the game. I always liked the way people get tired and need to sleep, and some innkeepers even say something about food, but you can't but it... It could be much fun, with Edwin complaining about food quality, Minsc trying to get some hamster-specials for Boo and so on.

It would, of course, be nice to get some new adventures and quests, completely new areas to explore and so on, but can't expect people to create BG3 on their own... They're already doing great job with the mods.

Oh lol, that would be great...

Minsc: Do you have Hamster Snacks?

Innkeep: Sorry Good Sir, there's not much demand for hamster these days... But, we do have some very tasty spit-roasted "ratsies".. imported direct from Sigil!

Minsc: *blinks*
*reality begins to dawn*
*roars*
NOooo ! Minsc doesn't want to eat hamster... How could Minsc eat his Boo!
*goes into berserker rage*

Er... sorry.. :D

Seriously, I agree, it always has struck me as a bit odd that you can consume enough alcohol to get your characters inebriated, but yet the inns don't even have so much as a single peanut..

Another mod that I would enjoy making, and it would present some very interesting challenges, would be a Yoshimo friendship (or relationship?) mod. Lots to work with there...

If you want something done, you have to do it yourself. Which is very true. That is the reason why I got into modding. I have many ideas and only one person is going to do it and that is me. Modding is not that hard, you start with something small and move up to something bigger. There are plenty of tutorials to show you how to do something and there are plenty of mod tools to choose from.
