party and weapons

Post by alphadruid »

What is the best party and weapon distribution you've ever made? and why?
(heart of fury)

For me its
1) Paladin - sword, flail, bow, great sword
2) F/Druid - sword, club, sling, spear
3) F dual to Druid - dagger*****, sling
4) F/M/T - bow, sword, short sw, axe
5) Cleric - sling, hammer, mace
6) Bard - bow, cbow, axe

Try and cover all the weapons available in the games and put in all character types. That will increase fun. Each character should have a ranged, a blunt, a slashing type and a 2hand.

My paladin usually get bows/sword/flail at level 7. I put in great sword later on.

F/mage combos get bows/mace/axe.

F/Thief combos get bows/staff/daggers. The staff is the only weapon you can effective back stab. If you try a sword, the enemy turns around and attacks the thief trying to backstab/sneakattack.

F/Druid - slings/clubs/spears. Remember that there are good +4 clubs for free at level 4 spells.

As the cleric, dual class a ranger to a cleric at level3. The next sweet spot is at level7. Put in a sling/hammer/staff and should cover almost all weapons in the game. the ranger class does a +1 to apr for the cleric. That +1 works for staff.

A harp and a flute works well with a bard :)

I recently completed HoW+TotL with the following party:

Paladin - Axes, Bastard swords
Fighter - Longswords, Crossbows
Cleric - Maces, Flails
Druid - Spears, Staves
Mage - Daggers
Fighter/Thief - Short swords, Longswords, Bows

After a complete playthrough of IWD+HoW+TotL all party members are level 17 or higher. I tried to span as many of the great weapons as I could (see list below):

Axes: Axe of Caged Souls, Axe of stunning +5 (forget the name)
Bastard swords: Trollslayer, Amaunator's Legacy
Longswords: Singing Blade of Aihonen, Flaming longsword +2, and a host of others
Crossbows: Hoping to get the Repeating Heavy Crossbow +5 in my second playthrough with this party.
Maces: Three White Doves, Giving Star
Flails: Shocking flail +4, Fire Flail +3, Flail of Mae, and others
Spears: Spear of Kerish, and a Spear +5 (I forget the name)
Staves: Staff of Nature's Wrath
Daggers: Mage dagger +4, Ol' Withery, Kiss of the Gloomfrost
Short Swords: Blood Iron
Bows: Hoping to get Longbow +4, Hammer

I think the Hammer Longbow was taken out with HoW. It used to be a random drop in Ilmadia's hut (along with the Repeating Heavy Crossbow).
When your back is against the wall... the other guy is in a whole lotta trouble.

The only chance to get the longbow +4 hammer with HoW installed is killing Emmerich in his shop in Lonelywood. It's tricky since he runs away when attacked.

I did get the Repeating Heavy Crossbow +5 a long time ago (with HoW). I believe I got it from Presio on insane difficulty but it's been a few years since I've done it so I'm not sure.

No, you got the Heavy Crossbow of Speed, not the Repeating Heavy Crossbow. The Repeating Heavy Crossbow is never found in Dragon's Eye, regardless of difficulty level. It is found much later.
