imho the big pro dualclasses have are a kit

you can just multi Fighter - Thief

but you can dualclass
kensai - thief

which will give him quite a boost
the other thing is fighter will not grow so much after level 10

after level 10 you will not recieve much hp, your thaco is good enough, just the extra attack at 12 is interesing.

priests or especially mages will get stronger with their high level spells

the HLAs of the fighter are fine, but the benefits of a kit will outweight them,

GWW probably the favorited HLA by the people will give you 10 APR
without it you will probably just have 5, cast improved haste and you have 10 APR for several rounds on you.

I think Critical strike and Hardiness along with Magic resistance are the 3 only really useful HLAs of a Fighter

I dont think you need that much HLAs just 3-4 different for the hardest fights
and dont forget with a kensai/mage slayer/assasin you will probably do more damage since you will have synergy with your other HLAs/Spells and so on.

so my final words are

Soloclass < Multi-class < Dual-class

but as i said this is MY opinion :)

It depends on the class combination.

For instance I think a cleric/ranger multiclass is better than a cleric/ranger dual class. It is much easier to maintain and for me, as my play style, I like to avoid getting most of the cleric HLA's and Fighter HLA's either way. All I get is Deva, GWW and Hardiness. Here, if you want to play a defensive character, the multiclass is more beneficent. The dual class however would be able to provide more attacks per round for about two or so turns, two or three times per day but the multiclass would be able to cast more spells per day.

Also, again, in my opinion I think that the fighter/mage/thief pales in comparison to a Blade.

Rav: Yes, most of my combinations rely on little or no party members. For full parties though, I'd suggest sticking with single class characters.
