I've pretty much completed the quest and have got the ring from Thoronir but when I go to Jensine's shop with the Macarbre Book and Shovel, she just says:

"Don't you have some things to give me?"

I've used up all the options and don't have anything else to talk to her about!

Seem's this game has a few bugs which prevent you from completing the quests :(

In case you picked up the shovel in Agramir's basement, that won't do. You need the shovel found in the crypt.
I'm trying this quest myself. I waited for Argamir to leave his house and had to break in. My SECURITY isn't great and my picks break all the time (despite the listen-to-the-clicks approach). I finally broke in, but a guard materialized and arrested me. What's the trick to this portion?
This isn't a bug! You just have to move the slider to the bottom of the conversation topics bar until Thoronir shows as a topic. Talk to her about Thoronir, and all will work out. :)
Meh... don't feel silly! A LOT of people didn't spot that, me included, first time playing the game.
This seems to be a troublesome quest. I can not seem to catch Argamir leaving his house. I saved then waited 40 hours in 2 hour increments, everytime I went to pick in it said he was home. How do I trigger for him to leave??
You can't. He leaves in his own good time, which can be early morning to late afternoon or even during the night. Stand where you can see his house door, but not on top of it. There are two conveniently located places with bushes you can stand behind in stealth mode if you want to role-play properly. Go into WAIT screen and wait 1 hour. Check the door. Keep doing this until it stops saying Agamir is home and the door bolted inside.
At that time, make sure you are in Sneak mode, and that there are no guards - or anyone else - in view. SAVE GAME. Then lockpick the door, reloading if you use up too many picks. Inside, make for the basement door, which is also an Average lock. The evidence you want is a book, The Macabre Manifest.

It's the shovel in Trentius Tomb, where you found Agarmir and his pal waiting to kill you.

It says (SPOILER) in the thread title. You read such threads at your own risk. Mostly, even so, people put spoilerish stuff in black - which is perfectly easy to read anyway, so seems pointless to me.

However, I have very recently found that if you prefix spoiler info with SPOILER, in square brackets, and end it with /SPOILER in square brackets,
Spoiler
no text shows until you highlight it
so just highlight the gap if you want to read it. ;)

Sweet! I wondered how you did that (I'm a notorious abuser of the infamous readable black text :) ).
Can the answer to this question be "No"?

Some Observations About "Unfriendly Competition"

Hello, Forum Members!
I'm new here and this is my first post and/or reply. It was this thread topic that got me interested enough to register. :) Just in case what I'm about to write contains so-called "spoilers", I'll mark them as such if I can. #01: Is that a black butterfly or the only bat in the game, in the crypt? Did any one else experiment with trying to either catch it or kill it?
Spoiler
#02: Did anyone else wonder how your PC learns that "grave robbing is a crime punishable by death" without beinng told first? If so, it turns out that if you show the book to Jensine before Thoronir, she tells you as much! #03: Don't forget to examine each crypt statue. "Caliban's Grim Retort" is hidden by his. On my brother's X-Box I had to jump while in sneak mode to be able to grab it. But on my computer I could only get it while using the Console command, "TCL"!
#04: Does anyone else find it ironic that even as your character finds it to be poetic justice for killing Agarmir for his crime of grave robbing, no one tries to arrest your PC or kill your PC for it, either during this quest or at any other time? Your PC doesn't even feel suicidal about it!
Shhh! Be very quiet! I may be sleep writing and sleep reading!

#1. I always thought they were bats. There is more than one, but they are so fast it's hard to tell. And no, I never kill anything that doesn't attck me first.
#2. Never worried about it.
#3. Always have to jump for it, no need for sneak mode, though.
#4. Taking stuff from Agamir and his mate isn't grave robbing. Taking that item is, of course, but apart from a faint smile, it never concerned me. :)

Oh! And hullo! ;)

It's Just A Reply! Why The Seperate Title?

Hello! Hey, I got a reply!. I wasn't worried about it, just curious. So there's more than one bat in the crypt, or in the game? Anyway, there are times when I save, just to experiment, to see what happens if I do this or that. I liked doing that with Leisure Suit Larry to see what would and would not kill him. The one with the blender recycler underground, was funny! With the Q game for Star Trek, I experiment with how man failure scenes they made before that start over! There's even a fake out, where you think it's a repeat, but in the next one he says something like, "Oh, you didn't believe that one?" But before I digress... Oh, I used sneak mode to make my PC fit into the small area so she could reach it to grab it. Just "pogo" type jumping didn't seem to work timing wise. I know that looting Agarmir and that guy aren't gave robbing. I just wondered why not mark items red, when it supposedly is grave robbing. After a certain FG quest, the town guards even remark, "So the Fighter's Guild looted a crypt! So what? It wasn't like they didn't have permission from a member of the family!" Or some varient of that sentiment. It's more a curiosity and being an observer or irony. Happy Independence Day! :)

I think I remember the odd bat or so in some other dungeony places, but I wouldn't swear to it. They are all as uncatchable as the butterfles anyway.
What sort of gets me from time to time is that the butterflies are the ONLY wildlife not meant to be killed. You hear a bird singing, or a hawk whistling, now and then, but never see one. You hear insectoidal sounds now and then, but never see one. And little rustlings, as of small critters in the grass. I guess adding them in physically, in butterfly or bat mode, would take up too much space.

What REALLY gets my goat, though, are the clunks and clatters you hear in dungeons, as of something falling, when you know darned well you've killed everything in there!

Ambiant Sounds.

Hi, Again!
I've been in the cities and heard barking dogs, even without mods. But the oddest has been hearing horse traffic on the city streets and not seeing any carts or horses. I think some of my characters have even stepped out in front of these invisible horse carts only to hear a sudden stop and the driver upset that he nearly ran you over. But these ambiant sounds I usualy only hear when I have the volume up though. I usually keep the volume low and I have the music off altogether as I mostly play while others sleep. So I don't hear much of the subtle stuff. But it is interesting when I do. I've sometimes heard what you have. Makes me double check myself! :o

Really? Have to say I've never heard any traffic on the streets! In fact, since the streets are totally traffic free, I could never see the point of the roads and pavements.

And dogs and wolves can be SEEN barking/howling, but nary a sound do I get. It'd be nice to hear 'em, actually. Hm. Maybe I should turn up the ambient sound. I'm glad you mentioned it. :)

I DO have music playing, quite low, since it usefully warns that something inimical to your health has spotted you. Though I use sneak mode most of the time outside cities, which is warning enough.

I usually play during the day myself, since I am retired, and it doesn't bother anyone.

Something I recently noticed: I usually play with the grass off, and my own preference settings, but, just for a change, I went with (more or less) the default settings, and I've spotted little bright motes flickering in the grass at a little distance, which can only be moths of fireflies. They vanish it you try to get close for a proper look, and reappear when you move away.

Well, it may not happen right away! I've only had it happen once, that I'm aware of. Yes, I do play at night! Day too. When the picture shakes or my character gets knocked across the screen, then I know something came up from behind and attacked, clumsiness aside. :o ;)

I've seen flickering lights too, but now that you mention it, I suppose they could be insect or fairy life! My character has this magic green ring that sparkles or glows and when she's invisible, it isn't. So when she bobs around in sneak mode it looks like a firefly. Hmm. I wonder if....

Anyway, yesterday I did this quest again, for my latest character.
Spoiler
This time I also visited Jensine a second time before seeing Thoronir a second time. She tells me to go see him, as this is his last chance to clear himself or else the Watch will have his head!
Oh, was that a spoiler? Just in case I tagged it as such.
Spoiler
Oh, I also talked to Agamnir after raiding his basement. This time I got in and out just as he was leaving, because he was still in front of his door walling away as I left! I followed him awhile before becoming visible and confronting him. He doesn't confirm or challenge, instead he denies. But he is already walking to the tomb!

Finally!

I have been trying to complete this stinking quest for 5 days now... Every place that I could think to stand where they couldn't see me was a no-go...

I'm about to go and try the suggestion and see if it *Finally* lets me complete the quest so I can get it out of my way.... and on to better ones...

:)
