I just now beat the "You Only Die Once a Night" quest in Bloodlines, after how many years playing the game on and off? Well, since it was released basically. I actually planned ahead, getting my melee up to eleven, getting the best melee weapon that was available in the game, using the tactic of only attacking the zombies that directly threatened the gates, etc. It feels oddly good, mainly because I never thought I could best that atrociously designed quest.
Yes, finally! Anyway, anyone else felt this quest was insurmountable? I still can't wrap my head around the fact that I beat it.

Lots of people do! That quest was clearly too hard for the time you usually get it. I think I went back much later to finish it in my playthrough because otherwise I just couldn't. Expect the plus version of the next Unofficial Patch to adjust the difficulty a bit .AGustofWind wrote: Yes, finally! Anyway, anyone else felt this quest was insurmountable?

I suppose it makes sense many found it difficult, and yeah I backtracked to do the quest after I had bumped up my melee skill (so I could more easily wade through the horde). You say the next patch will adjust the difficulty, does this mean reducing the time needed to complete the quest/zombies spawning less frequently by the gates?Wesp5 wrote:Lots of people do! Looking forward to that new library level, as well .
Wesp5, I used to take the sniper role if I wanted to finish this quest. I'd take a good scoped rifle, lie down on top of one of the grave stones to get an angle that would pretty much cover both gates. Does that approach still work?

Great. I wanted to ask you because I remember having so much difficulty with that part of the game.. more so than any other place. Until I found that one approach that worked for me.

Can't confirm it from the files, but in the official versions and at least some earlier versions of Wesp's patch the quest seems to be broken, if you do it right away when you've entered the graveyard for the first time. Broken as in the gates won't break So, yeah, thought it was easy, too, on my first few playthroughs... until I decided to put it off for a while...
