Don't know if you'd place Otep in any category you would like, but its hardcore/metal with a female lead singer who writes her own lyrics. I have to be in a specific mood to listen to just about anything, she's got some extremely contraversial lyrics...I hate having to say that but for anyone who's heard the ones about her father I'd have to say they'd know what I meant.
I'm not sure if you would have any around you, but the store FYE has things you can scan cd's in their store and listen to them. A store like that could help you out quite a bit in picking out the cd's you wanted. I do know most chain stores don't end up carrying much on the type of music I listen to however so you may run into a problem like that.
My girlfriend tends to like Jack Off Jill, but considering the three bands you mentioned, that band isn't all that close to it. Figured it may be worth mentioning though, they dont get any kind of radio time or anything so you either know them from someone or don't hear of them kind of thing.
I really can't think of any bands with female artists along those lines except for modern ones, and like, Heart. Unfortunately a lot of the female vocalists I've come across that go into the metal scene end up screeching which I cannot tolerate. Simply irritating to deal with, man or woman.
1) What's the closest mainstream bands that Jack Off Jill sound like?
2) Unfortunately, Magrus, I have heard Otep, and that's not my thing. Not really singing, and a hint too much controversy for my case. Sorry man.
3) I accept Heart as legends, but overall they're music's just a tad too mellow for me.
4) Definitely got an FYE pretty close by. I just wasn't sure how that thing you described worked (until now). Thanks for that bit, man.
