Introductory Level Bug

Post by Porthios »

Okay, I don't know how many other people are experiencing this.

Remember the part at the beginning of the game where you get the key card out of the safe? Well I got it. Now I think I was supposed to equip it and use it on the door in that same room that has an electronic lock on it.

The problem that I'm having is that I can't equip the damn key card. So even though it is in my inventory, the electronic doorhandle always flashes red, and I can't open it.

Am I just doing the wrong thing, or is the game buggy?

Well, you're not supposed to equip it. Just take it out of the safe and you should be able to open the door

I have tried over and over again. I take it out of the safe. I see it in my inventory. Then I go to open that god damn electronically locked door. I walk up to it. A little icon pops up at the bottom of my screen showing me a little red padlock over a key pad (most certainly representing an electronic lock) and then I press E (use key). And NOTHING happens.

Is it possible for a game to be this buggy? Am I just doing something wrong?

Did you talk to Jack after getting the key? Need to do that first I believe.

That's just the way of many release-version RPGs. Vampire, and Troika's previous work, ToEE, are pretty bug-ridden. Vampire's bugs seem less destructive, however, and mostly asthetic, annoying, or just uncomfortable (sound errors, sound lag, performance issues).

What you're describing though is a game-ruiner, unless you just skip the intro. But then you don't get the lockpicks or the XP. If there's any advice I can give you it's don't buy release version RPGs (particularly those that have been published by publishers that like their forced release dates met), and for those release version RPGs you already own, tough it out until the official patch is released.
The key is the computer, people. You have to hack it... or just read the password above the safe, and use the unlock command under the safe menu. That simple, really.
Umm, I don't think opening the safe is the problem here....

when you take the card out of the safe, jack automatically talks to you. and the door works so i think you got a bug there. there is alot of bugs in this game. that Troika needs to sort out. plus did you know your supposed to have a special mouse cursor?

You could use the Console to skip the intro and give yourself 2xp and some lockpicks.. Or you could noclip through the door and see if everythign contiues as normal afterwards.. Otherwise, yeah, I dunno. Should be a simple case of "Talk to Jack, Look at note over safe, type password into computer, unlock safe, open safe, get key, Jack talks, moe to door on the right hand side of the room, open, ever onwards"
How.. Long away do we think that patch is?
I was Diablorised once. I got better.
