Starting Over/(Spoliers) ?

Post by joe05 »

Guys - I hate to bother you again, but I think I screwed up my build.
So I will tell you where I'm at; what I've discovered about the game vs my physical limitations; ask for your advice.
I really need help/advice :-)
I'd like to keep playing TLC. since gaming and reading is all I can do ... I'm in a weheelchair/house bound ... so, this is important to me :-)

1) I think I did too many quests too quickly = ever since the Bandit/Seer quest, my main attack has been melee ... thus, my Will powers xp is going up very slowly ... Fireball, which was decent thru the Trader escort, now is useless ... I added Divine Fury because those floating fairies were killing me, but it's useles at level 1 ... I just finished the White Balverine quest; next up Arena

Ok, here's my dilemma.........>
1) I can't beat the fairies or trolls ... I did beat the troll in the Traders Quest, but I cheated by hiding behind the tree stump where his boulders missed and slowly fireballed him ... in the arena, there is no hiding ... I did beat the Whie Balverine and other tough path battles by cheating = I'd use Slow Time/PhysicalShield/Multi Strike till my mana ran out, then I'd run quickly to the nearest gateway to escape; wait till my mana filled up and prime up the 3 spells and walk back through the gateway ... rinse and repeat ... still, I used up all my produce to stay healthy ... as you can see, I won't beat this game playing it straight :-(
Current Quest: Arena
Current Stats:
* STR -4
* Health - 3
* TOUGH - 4

* Fireball - 1
* Lightning -1
* Duivine Fury -1
* Slow -1
* Phy Shield - 1
* Muti Strke -1

*** I do not like this setup ***
I see no way of upping my Will, as all battles since Bandit/Seer quest have been melee

2) Do I start over ?
Is there any saving this build ... I won't survive the arena = no Lady Grace Invitation + doubt I beat Thunder(... from walkthrough) etc...

3) If I start over, do I just create a new profile ?
I see no way no deleting saves = I don't want to have 5+ profiles chewing up gb space on my hard drive :-) ... I'm hoping a new profile deletes the previous one ?

4) If I start over, I'd stop "questing" after the Trader Escort ... go to Oakvale
and just trek back and forth between Hero Guild and Oakvale to use my Will powers to level them up before stating the Bandit quest = does that make gameplay sense; does that work ?

I know this sounds convoluted; I'm sorry.
Have alot spinning thru my head :-)
Only 4hrs sleep each of the last 3 nights = game is killing me; it's so frenetic.

I'd like to play it to the end; if possible ?

Can anyone help me ?

I need to slow the game down, so "Slow Time" is crucial.
I take alot of damage, so "Phyical Shield" is crucial".
The less I have to hit/keyboard; the better ... in my case, "less is more"

Ok, what other powers would you reccomend ??!! ... has anyone played TLC thru using the "simplicity" route ?
What order should I buy my Will powers.
How long do you guys level up your Will before moving on to those quests that seem to depend on melee.

Knowing what you know about me, can I finish this game(... or at least make it to the final battle);or should I just remove it from my hard drive ?
Is there any build that can get "me" close to the end.

I know I'm asking alot, but gaming is about the only thing I can do :-)

If you have any questions; please ask.
Need clarification; please ask.
I'll take any/all the advice I can ... I really want to play TLC; just not sure if my lack of manual dexterity is a game-breaker ?

Since there are no cheats, I'm going to need a near perfect build and/or strategy.
I couldn't find any early "leveling up/creature spam" spots ... well, none that wouldn't have me drinking potions like Ted Kennedy at a wedding reception :-)

So guys, there it is in a big nutshell,
Whatever you can do to help is much appreciated = as is all you've done for me already

** I'll take a break, watch some tv; keep my other build till I hear from you guys **

A couple of things:

1. When you complete quests, the experience goes into a general pool that you can spend on anything. So you don't actually have to use your will powers to improve your will powers. Ages potions are a big help here as well, if you build up your combat multipler before quaffing them.

2. I didn't see any mention of using potions. If you're playing on the PC, then setting up potions in your hotkey bar should be pretty easy. I'm not sure how that works on the xbox. But regardless, since you only have 1 point in a lot of spells, meaning that you'll have to cast spells more often, mana potions would help you out.

3. You should be able to kill trolls with your current build. Just slow time and then hit them with melee attacks.

My suggestion is to get some more exp to spend on skills. I would go to the hobb cave right outside of where you help the traders. Then after awhile you should be able to increase your magic and other skills. If you want to do less max your physical shield, slow time, and devine furry because with these pretty much you walk up to enemies and start casting devine furry and pretty much destory everyone (untill you meet some of the tougher monsters in the end). Other people would say to max enflame because when you max it, it can do 600 damage to everyone around you. Just makes sure to keep lots of mana potions around and max your mana and you should be set.

swcarter/piff - thank you !
I'll keep going as I am.
Yes, I put health potions in #1 hotkey ... was using food

I didn't know about the General points translating to any category = I thought you could only use Will points on Will spells

I will try and up my Slow Time/Physical Shield/Divine Fury ... if lucky, add Enflame

I think I'll run sround and see if I can add more xp before doing the arena quest.
I tried Slow + Physical Shield + Mutli Strike vs both trolls = I got bouldered ro death asap ... I'm guessing it's the ol' "run around and hit them in the back" ... that type of manuvering is tough for me to do

Joe,

It sounds like you're going to keep going with your current build, which should be fine. There is nothing wrong with your build and one of the great things about Fable is that you can always switch from Melee to Bow to Magic at any time. I think the two biggest tips have already been mentioned:
1. Use your General Exp to build up your magic power and spells.
2. Use Will potions to heal your mana instead of running to another area. It will keep your combat multiplier higher and will go quicker since you don't wait to heal.

I would recommend that any time you pass through the guild or a town that you buy all the Will potions available. If you keep 100 or more of them you can use them as freely as you want without worrying about running out.

To get yourself going, and have a good strong magic offense, Enflame is your best friend. I would recommend that you get some exp (either do the first few levels of the arena then exit and save before the trolls or walk through areas killing bandits) and buy Enflame. If you can get it to level 2, start using it to kill instead of melee. Getting those extra few exp into Magic instead of Melee will help. Once you get Enflame to level 3, then start increasing your Magic Power. Raise this to level 5 or so; this will increase your mana pool and you will be able to cast more spells and absorb more damage before needing to use potions. Once you get to this point, reaise your Physical Shield to level 3, then raise Slow Time to level 3 (this makes it last longer).

Once you have a reasonable level in each, go back and max them out in the same order: Enflame, Magic Power, Physical Shield, Slow Time. Then work on Berserk and Multi Strike. You should find that a maxed out Enflame will get you through almost all enemies through to the end parts of the game. The monsters that you will have a hard time with using magic are primarily the trolls, so when you fight them use Slow Time, Berserk, Multi Strike (plus you should always have Physical Shield on). With these buffers, the trolls will go down in a hurry.

The nicest thing about having a good strong magic support structure is that it let's you control the pace of the game. If you want to hack and slash, physical shield will protect you and your other spells (berserk, slow time, multi strike) will make you as powerful as you want to be. If you start to get overwhelmed, just throw in an Enflame and it will known all monsters back, kill the weak ones and let you handle everyone that is left on a more one-to-one level.

EDIT: For now I would recommend ignoring Divine Fury. It is a great spell and some people don't use anything else, but I find that Enflame works better. It is cheaper to level up, it costs less mana and it doesn't take as long to cast. It doesn't do as much damage, but at level 4 it can kill the weaker bandits and balverines in 1 shot and 2 casts will kill just about anything weaker than the elite bandits.
