Your personal beliefs/religion/ideology(no spam, spam tastes bad)

Post by Magrus »

What Religion are you?

Curiosity made me wonder as to how many of each major religion we may have on the board. So, I'm making a poll. I know there has been a similar topic here, but no poll involved as a kind of statistic type thing, which is my point with this. Also, that thread was made way back 5 years ago, and well, most of the members who posted there are no longer here. I figured it best to start fresh, but if I am wrong in that, perhaps there is a way of adding a poll function to the old thread?

Anyhow, I was wondering if you folks might pick your religion of choice in the poll. Feel free to describe it. If you pick "other" becuase your choice isn't on the list, I would appreciate if you gave a simple description. I don't need a book, just a few sentances would do. If you want to share more, that'd be nice too.

Also:
I don't want this to turn into a debate of any kind, as it is simply a "what do you believe in" thing. Not "you should/shouldn't believe in" type thing.

*sighs* I know, I screwed up the title. I went crazy with the delete key and went too far when I redid it. :o Can't fix it though. :(

I selected "other" because it's a bit hard to place my beliefs under any one umbrella. Basically, I believe an undefined power or force, neither "good" nor "evil," exists through the weave of the Universe... From what I gather, this is fairly close to Daoism.

I'm sorry, but this is a "popcorn" question, and since it has been posted before (way back when I first checked this place out) I feel deeply insulted, provoked and generally messed with, since me and my buddies worship Eris, the goddess of discord. Now sodd off, you.... you.... (insert something really insulting...) ;)

Come to think of it, Eris should actually be the goddess of SYM....

That does sound familiar to what I recall of Daoism actually.

@ Moonbiter, "popcorn" or not, I am curious. It's an international forum, filled with people of moderate intelligence at least from all sorts of backgrounds. I happen to be surrounded mainly by either athiests or Christians in my area, so I am interested in seeing what other areas may be like.

I forgot to add my own beliefs in there. I'd be "other". People tend to think I happen to be wiccan if I spit out a very basic description, but I don't fit in with them at all really. I happen to have my own version of a now dead religion which the last I found record of it being followed was somewhere between 1250-1340 AD in Japan. It was unsanctioned by the emperer, and hence the monestary the people who followed it were living in was torn apart by the emperer for not worshipping in him as a deity. It is one which is polytheistic, and focuses on well, a neutral stance between both life and death, and "good" and "evil" if you want a moral stance of a sort. Mainly on death, seen as a rebirth, a change. Reincarnation, self-discovery and introspection, as well as analyzing the world around me in order to understand myself, and others as well play a large part of it as well. Not to mention, the main focus being a balance between all things, which should be maintained at all times.

Other,

I'm just gonna be blunt and to the point with my religion-
Agnostic Polytheistic, I don't claim to be apart of any religion, but I believe their to be some sort of higher life form out there, and maybe not just one.

Hmmm... so far people have only chosen "other."
It's a good thing this isn't a "what gender are you?" thread :D

Indeed. I figured it would be mostly "other" to be honest. I was just curious if my guess was right. :p

Whoa. I put Other, and I'm in the majority? Y'all must be pretty messed up. :D
To the Righteous belong the fruits of violent victory. The rest of us will have to settle for warm friends, warm lovers, and a wink from a quietly supportive universe.

Was born and raised Wiccan (while successfully evading the vain attempts of my father to get me to be a well-mannered and modest Catholic girl -- silly man), but converted to Kemet Orthodoxy about the time I started high school. That puts me in the "Other" category, too. :)

I'm an atheist, and I have a fairly low opinion of human beliefs in general since what passes for "knowledge" is usually pretty shallow and completely unsubstantiated, but I'm very friendly and sympathetic to those who seek meaning, purpose, and moral guidance in their lives through religion or other means. I think that praying to a cosmic parental figure is childish and silly ("please change the laws of nature just this once because I want you to"), but I actually do it myself out of habit because I was raised as a Christian and I just can't stop myself. Anything to make it through the day. :)

Atheists.

The only reason I'm still a "member" of the danish Christian church is to keep open the chance of marriage in a church without hassle (if a possible future spouse would want that) ... so that's simply a conveniences.

Dedicated and fundamentalist atheist. I actively don't pray and purposefully stay away from all places of worship. If I weren't pacifist, I'd start a worldwide fishslap (my atheist version of Crusade or Jihad).

I believe that is, and I could be wrong, the branch of christianity that one of the kings of england made up when he didn't like the fact Catholics couldn't divorce their wives. Not sure though.

SInce I'm half Christian and half atheist, I had to choose "Other". As I still believe in church (officially) and I believe in God, I don't believe in church. Mostly I'm annoyed how those who believe what church say think and try to force other think that every word in Bible or what church says is true and the only truth. If something is forbidden in Church's opinion, it should be generally forbidden for everybody. I just can't stand that.

If you believe in God (of any kind) you don't get to be atheist. Get out of my religion, heretic! ;)

It's hard to explain...
In a way, I'm also atheist, in a way I'm not...

For example, yes I do believe there is God, but I believe that He doesn't have anything to do with our world...

VERY hard to explain, I know... :o

EDIT: Actually, the half-Atheist half-Christian wasn't even my invention, My believing has been called that way by many of my friends...
